About This Play/Drill

Here are our Dribble Drive Motion "Initial Movement & Receiver Spots" that we use at Southern Peninsula, which is all based on Vance Walberg's AASAA or DDM. We use a few different tweaks in our DDM, as we like to have two (2) weak-side shooters as often as possible, and our post movement is also slightly different to that of the original DDM.

  • Lane Drive:

O2 must hold below the block until O1 gets (at least) below the elbow, this will help with spacing and opening up the biggest driving lane possible for O1.

    O5 wheels middle

    O3 & O4 fill the weak-side receiver/shooting spots

Note: we don't wrap O4, we would prefer two weak-side shooters to allow for an "extra pass" on the kick out.

  • Cross Lane Drive (towards post):

O2 must hold below the block until O1 gets (at least) two feet in the paint

    O5 wheels underneath the basket

    O3 & O4 fill the weak-side receiver/shooting spots

Note: We heavily encourage O3's position to look for the back door cut in this situation, the read on that would be if there is a straight line between ball-defender-O3

  • Cross Lane Drive (away from post):

Same as previous frame, the only difference being the post movement. O5 can now make a read to wheel middle or relocate to the edge of backboard.

Note: We heavily encourage O2's position to look for the back door cut in this situation, the read on that would be if there is a straight line between ball-defender-O2

  • Lane Drive (towards post):

O3 must hold below the block until O1 gets (at least) below the elbow, this will help with spacing and opening up the biggest driving lane possible for O4.

    O5 wheels underneath basket

    O1 & O2 fill the weak-side receiver/shooting spots

Note: we don't wrap O1, we would prefer two weak-side shooters to allow for an "extra pass" on the kick out.

  • Baseline Wing Drive:

    O1 wraps

    O5 wheels middle

    O3 & O4 fill the weak-side receiver/shooting spots

Note: we encourage O4 (weak-side diagonal position) to make a back door cut read, again, the read would be if there is a straight line between ball-defender-O4.

  • Middle Wing Drive:

    O1 wraps

    O5 wheels underneath basket

    O3 & O4 fill the weak-side receiver/shooting spots

Note: we encourage O3 (weak-side corner position) to make a back door cut read, again, the read would be if there is a straight line between ball-defender-O3.
