  • OBJECTIVE: To prevent/slow ball reversal and get the offense off schedule. Deny the swing spot!

1 begins with ball and passes to Passer (P). X1 is in sideline push while on-the-ball. X1 must jump to the ball on the pass to prevent the return pass to the basket cut.

2 sprints to the "swing spot"

  • 1 continues out of the lane if they do not receive the return pass. X1 must not follow them out of the lane, stay on help at midline.

X2 prevents the catch from 2 at the swing spot. Make 2 work to catch. At the very least they catch the ball going away from the basket.

  • If/when the ball does get to 2, X1 must close out to deny the full reversal.

  • Make 1 work for the wing catch. At the very least make 1 catch going away from the basket.

If 1 gets the catch, baseline push and it's 2v2 live.

  • You may also integrate the defense of some "common actions" into this drill.

For example, the pass and basket cut...

  • ...the pass and follow ball screen

  • ...if 1's drive is cut off, deny the pass to the tail lights

  • ...the dribble-at backdoor

  • ...the DHO

  • Optional:

If 2 gets catch but is unable to fully reverse to 1 due to great denial, they can snap it back to P.

X1 must move on air time of the pass to help and x2 must jump to deny to prevent return pass

Passer can drive baseline, hit 2 on a basket cut if open. 1 may ball flash to nail whereupon X1 "sticks" the cutter.
