Favorite Send to FastDrawIndiana ran 15 Flash for their first basket against Wichita State in the 2015 NCAA tournament. Yogi Ferrell had a clear path to the basket. If the shot wasn't there; he had a forward diving to the weakside block, shooters in both corners, and a safety valve up top. Indiana Lineup 1 - James Blackmon Jr. 4 - Robert Johnson 5 - Troy Williams 11 - Yogi Ferrell 30 - Collin Hartman See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawUCLA ran a really nice Elevator set at the end of the first half in today's matchup with UAB. They get some action before the final screen, and allow a shooter to get open to hit a 3 after a timeout. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLooking to establish momentum early, the UCLA Bruins used this weave action into a backscreen lob against UAB on their opening possession. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNorth Dakota State ran this Horns set early in the game against Gonzaga. Looking to get their stretch 4 an open jump shot, they run a nice Horns set into a 2-man game on the wing. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLon Kruger called this play in the second half against Albany. In this BLOB, the Sooners are trying to get an open shot on the perimeter for Buddy Hield. Hield starts out at the block in front of the ball. The play starts with a cross-screen by Hield for 4. 4 gets the ball at the elbow and gives the ball to the inbounder on a dribble hand-off. Once the point guard has the ball back, he sets up a misdirection by dribbling left as Hield cuts off of a staggered screen out to the right wing. 1 passes to Hield for a 3-point shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is another great play from Oklahoma State to get Phil Forte a shot. The play starts with multiple dribble hand-offs that gets the defense chasing the ball. Once the ball is back to the point guard, he dribbles towards the middle of the floor then hits the wing on a snapback. Forte (2) sets a cross-screen for 5 then gets a down-screen from 4. Forte cuts to the top of the key for an open shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOklahoma State used this flex option early when Oregon was playing man to man defense. The Cowboys didn't get a good shot since they gave up on the play after the hand-off (they did not get to the screen for Forte at the end). However, this is a good play to get Forte (2) open for a shot. The play starts in traditional flex with the ball moving from right to left. Instead of 1 setting the down-screen for the flex screener inside, 1 slides to the right wing as 4 sets the down-screen. Once 5 gets the ball at the top of the key, he dribbles right to give 1 the ball on a dribble hand-off. At the same time, Forte sets a cross-screen in the post then cuts to the wing off of a down-screen from 5. This play is difficult to guard because 5's defender has to worry about the hand-off and then react to Forte cutting to the wing. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBelmont ran Pindown DHO action to open the game for the first couple of sets. On the first set, it was a quick shot. The next set they ran it into a high ballscreen, but because of Belmont's great 3 point shooting at almost every position the floor was spread. The player setting the high ballscreen noticed his defender was over helping and so he sprinted to the rim quickly for a layup. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMichigan State ran this side out of bounds play in their NCAA opener against Georgia. The Spartans used this action to get an open 3pt look for the 1, and the flare screen for the 2 is an excellent option, as well. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawStephen F. Austin ran this BLOB set against Utah late in the 2nd half of their Round 2 matchup. The Lumberjacks were within striking distance of the Utes and needed quality scoring opportunities. This play worked to perfection but the open 3 didn't fall. This multiple action set utilizes misdirection for the shooter followed by a stagger. SFA had no trouble completing the handoff or getting the open 3 they were looking for. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawNC State used this play early in the 1st half to get an open shot for Trevor Lacey. The play starts with an entry pass to the wing and a UCLA cut from 1 to the low post. Once 3 (Lacey) gets the ball at the top of the key, he has the option to pass to 1 for a shot or to pass to 4 flashing to the pinch post. If Lacey passes to 4, he loops around him at the elbow looking for a hand-off and a shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawCincinnati ran this Horns set 3-4 times throughout the first half against Purdue. The goal of this set is to create mismatches either on the Pick & Roll with replace action, or to force the defensive bigs to switch and then post up on the mismatch created. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAt the 5:40 mark in the first half, UAB ran this box set play. The Blazers were very patient and worked through multiple options before getting an open shot on the dribble hand-off at the end of the play. UAB missed the shot but got an offensive rebound. Slowing the game down and working through offensive options looks to be a good strategy for Coach Haase. This slows down Iowa State and can get the Cyclones into foul trouble if they are lazy on defense. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere are two plays from Wofford Terriers head coach Mike Young. The Terriers are back in the NCAA Tournament for the 2nd straight year and for the 4th time in the past 6 seasons. In these plays, the Terriers use the point guard to set a down screen for 5. 5 makes the zipper cut up the lane line looking for the ball at the elbow or slightly extended. The small on big down screen makes it hard for the defense to defend the zipper cut into the hand-off actions. If the defense switches, the post defender is now guarding a smaller player on a hand-off (when he is used to guarding the post player). Zipper Post #1: In the first option, 2 passes to 5 at the elbow and 1 loops around 5 looking for a hand-off. If 1 cannot turn the corner, he has 4 coming off of a down screen on the weak side or 2 slipping to the basket. Zipper Post #2:In the second option, it starts just like the first play with 1 setting the screen for 5 and 5 cutting up to get the ball at the elbow. Instead of 1 cutting around 5 for hand-off. This time 3 moves in from the wing to loop around 5. Once 3 has the ball, he has the same scoring and passing options as 1 did in the first play. See More
