Basketball Play - Box Elbow Fake Hand Off Elevator

Box Elbow Fake Hand Off Elevator

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment for an iso driving lane. The set uses a elevator screen to occupy defenders in order to maintain space for an elbow drive. The timing is a little clunky, but a playmaking forward should be able to work with the elbow isolation this set creates. Basketball Play - 1-4 Low Rise Fake Hand Off Iso

1-4 Low Rise Fake Hand Off Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at set play out a 1-4 low alignment. Both posts flash to the elbows and the ball is entered there. The strong side wing cuts off the ball and the hand off is faked. After faking the hand off, the post spins in the opposite direction to drive the open side. Basketball Play - Fake Hand Off Gap Drive

Fake Hand Off Gap Drive

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 2-1-2 alignment. This play gives a forward a nice opportunity to drive double gap to score or kick to a shooter in the corner. This play is best used in a series where the ball is entered the same way, but the hand off actually takes place. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Iso

Fake DHO Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at set play to clear out the baseline for a drive. This play is really simple, and only involves two players, so teams with limited personnel could use this play to limit the number of players handling the ball. Reading the wing backdoor on the catch by 4 is an option, although not explored in this clip. This play won't work every time, but when it does it will likely be for a layup. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at play design for a point guard to drive the ball to an empty baseline. They can decide to drive as an isolation, or to skip the pass to the back side for a hammer set. Either way, the defense is misdirected with the fake hand off, and stretched side to side with the hammer action. This set is gold. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Clear Out

Fake DHO Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a clear out option for a point guard. Fake handoffs on the wing are great misdirection to set up the baseline drive, especially when paired with something where the handoff is used. Basketball Play - High Ball Screen Throwback Chicago

High Ball Screen Throwback Chicago

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set with some nice false action to get to a gap drive. I'm a big fan of using the pin down into the DHO action, so adding a little more misdirection with the ball screen throwback makes the set even more interesting to me. Basketball Play - Triple Brush

Triple Brush

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a gap drive set. I've honestly never seen a triple brush screen before viewing this set. Take a look at the video. I think it could work if executed well. Basketball Play - 41 Brush Weave

41 Brush Weave

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a gap drive set. The brush and weave create some nice movement before the advanced slasher gets a nice double gap to attack. Basketball Play - Horns Stagger DHO Flare Slip

Horns Stagger DHO Flare Slip

Matt Hackenberg 03/31/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a long form play with multiple options. I like these style of plays because you just need to catch the defense slipping on one of the actions to create an advantage. The stagger may create a shot behind the hand off, or a pass to the roller after the hand off. The flare stretches the defense side to side, and the slip is a chance for an easy basket if the defense is sleeping.
