This is a breakdown of an offense we call "Flow." Flow is three guard, two forward offense that is a hybrid of a ball screen offense and dribble drive concepts. It has options to attack driving gaps and play pick and roll. I really think the roll and replace concept is hard to guard, and we often found the replacing big wide open at the top of the key. We modify our dribble drive attack from 4 Out to 5 Out and use passing and cutting to create double gaps to drive. This action works best against pressure man defense and allows for tempo control by the offense. I love the offense from a developmental standpoint, teaching cutting, catching, passing and pivoting. This is a set play out of a horns alignment we use with multiple options. First, we use the alignment to let a playmaker attack and read the defense with the horns ball screen, roll/pop action. We want to play off the ball handler, and if we can't create a shot off the initial attack, look to play 4 around 1 with our big to get it inside. We used a box set with the same initial action to start each play, and then used a numbering system to decide which option we would use. The series sets up multiple back doors, a rejected ball screen to an empty baseline and a stagger screen. I've had this installed every year I've been a head coach, and it works like a charm. Using the same movement pattern for each play allows you to install one play with five different options. Video clip below.
