Basketball Play - NC Central - PNR Post Rip

NC Central - PNR Post Rip

Matt Wheeler 03/16/2017

NC Central ran this ball screen play to get a quick bucket at the basket for their post player. The hard cut from 2 kept his defender close and unable to provide help in the post. This play was especially effective against UC Davis as they hard hedged the screen with their big, who was never able to get back into the play as 5 rolled to the basket. 3 then screened his own man leaving 5 wide open at the rim. Matt Wheeler 03/16/2017

Providence ran this zone quick hitter early in their game against USC. The initial pass to the wing and the post exchanges relaxed the defense and set them up for the lob. After 1 gets the ball back from the wing 2, 4 & 5 screen the bottom of the zone giving them a 4 on 3 advantage in the back line. 1 then passes to 3 for the lob. See More

Michigan -Tandem PNR DHO

Matt Wheeler 03/17/2017

Michigan ran this play at the end of the first half in their game against Oklahoma State to try to get the last shot. The back screen for 3 is a decoy but it causes x5 to be late on the ball screen and forces a switch onto 1. When 2 turns the corner on the second ball screen Michigan has two mismatches with a x5 guarding 1 and x2 guarding 5 in the post. See More

Basketball Play - Middle Tennessee - 1-3-1 Zone Variations

Middle Tennessee - 1-3-1 Zone Variations

Matt Wheeler 03/17/2017

Middle Tennessee has made it out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament as the underdog two years in a row. One of the keys to their success is the unique variations of the 1-3-1 defense that they use. They play a very aggressive version of the zone but what makes them different is how they rotate out of it to completely change their defense in the same possession. This can slow the opposing offense down and force them to get into a play late in the shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - Saint Mary's - Elbow Flex Step Up

Saint Mary's - Elbow Flex Step Up

Matt Wheeler 03/19/2017

Saint Mary's used this play in their game against Arizona to isolate their 1 and 4 for a pick and roll situation. The Gaels start in an elbow set with 1 making an entry pass to 5. The flex screen by 1 and the down screen from 4 are all decoy actions so they can get 1 the ball back and he can create out of the step up ball screen. See More
