BYU Quick Flare
03/18/2015BYU ran this misdirection play against Ole Miss in the NCAA First Round. It starts with a stagger screen for the 1 man, a dangerous shooter. While this happens, 2 sets a token ballscreen for the ballhandler and immediately slips the screen. The 1 man curls the stagger and clears while the 5 man turns back and sets a flare screen for the 2 after he slipped the ballscreen. A great defensive effort by x2 prevented a 3 point shot here, but the 2 man still made a quick read and drove baseline to the basket for a foul. See More

03/07/2015After examining two plays that Wooden runs to get layups or post touches, Wooden needed a way to attack teams that would sag into the lane and dare his team to shoot elbow jumpers. While Wooden didn't coach in an era of the three-point shot, the use of the outside or mid-range shot was crucial because it would open up the lane further. Wooden ran this play, called "Kentucky", to open up a shot on the wing for one of his guards coming off a double screen. See More

03/07/2015Today's Play of the Day is from Tom Thibodeu and the Chicago Bulls, a set they've run for Nikola Mirotic. Chicago has employed two true big man lineups during the Thibodeau era, so having a shooting big man like Mirotic is something new for the team. As such, Thibodeau's playbook has expanded, and now features some nice sets for a shooting big man. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs: 2-1-2 Scissor Option 2
03/04/2015One of the most common three on three play in basketball is splitting the post and scissoring off the post, or first cutter and second cutter. This play uses an double staggered down screen. It involves the high post man and both guards. It's a great way to get your point guard a great shot. Gregg Popovich has built a good portion of his career wins on the efforts of veteran-laden teams, led by Hall of Famer David Robinson and future Hall of Famer Tim Duncan, playing a traditional, grind it out style of inside out basketball. It's been a style that was extremely successful, winning Popovich almost 65 percent of his regular season games (more than 53 games a season) and five NBA Championship Titles.
