Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. Using the 5 Out alignment, all five offensive players are on the outside of the zone, giving great opportunity to screen in. This is a chance to create an easy 3pt opportunity. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. This works specifically against a 2-3 zone, screening out the top defenders to create a pocket for the point guard to drive into. Once face to face with x5, 1 can either shoot the floater or throw the lob to 5. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. The concept of overloading the zone places more offensive players in an area than there are defenders. The cuter overloads the zone, shifting with the pass, and then an interior screen frees up the post player to catch the ball inside on the tight curl. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and video clip we see a zone set to provide movement and a middle flash. If executed with good timing, this set should privde either an open wing three-pointer or a baseline cutter. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and video clip we see a zone set to overload the defense. The object is to have four offensive players in the area of three defensive players, and force the defense to "guard air." Video below. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at a zone offense set play for a back side lob. I always wanted to have a set or two like this installed for when teams flipped to zone on us on the fly. I love getting a quick, easy two when we see zone. This play has the added potential of really providing some energy for your team if you have a high flyer that can dunk the ball. Please make sure you have a good passer throwing the lob. Video below. Favorite Send to FastDrawIn this diagram and embedded video we look at a zone offense set play. I like how the play stretches the defense side to side, and overloads the defense. This is a low risk set that can produce a three-point shot. Video below. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis diagram and embedded video is a simple set play to screen the back side forward and distract the middle defender in order to lob behind a 2-3 or 3-2 zone. We usually try this once or twice any time we play against zone teams. It works fairly well to steal an easy bucket. The toughest part of executing the action is the timing and accuracy of the pass. Favorite Send to FastDrawWe used this set against 3-2 and 2-3 zones to screen in the weak side low defender to skip the ball to a shooter. I think it's a nice addition to any zone package if you have a great shooter. Favorite Send to FastDrawSkip to 6:30 mark of the embedded video below. The diagrams and video show how using the Euro Ball Screen Offense against 1-3 zone functions. We ran this as a set every year we had the Euro Ball Screen Offense installed and it worked very well 2-3 times per game against zone. After that, the defense tended to figure it out. Favorite Send to FastDrawOur base zone offense was a 4-Out alignment with our 5 player on the baseline behind the zone. The guards were to pass and cut to heart of the defense, and then take a step back towards the ball. If they don't get the ball, they are to vacate to the open side. We wanted movement on the perimeter with a constant revolving middle player, and penetration into the gaps. Favorite Send to FastDrawIt's baffling to me how often we would score on this simple play. We used it more as a BLOB special, about once every game or so. The less often you run it, the more effective it will be. The counter action, as seen in the diagram and in the embedded video, can also create some decent looks for your team, but that action requires more work once the ball is entered than the initial action. Favorite Send to FastDrawI always found this lob set to be creative and effective. I thought having it in the playbook was always valuable because I felt like we could steal an easy basket against zone defense, or at least get a high efficiency shot. Timing is so critical, but if the timing is perfected, this play will be hard to stop. Having your best passer in the position to throw the lob is very important, something I didn't always do a good job of when we ran this set.
