Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - Stack Pick and Roll

Toronto Raptors - Stack Pick and Roll

Cooper Smither 04/09/2018

The Toronto Raptors have followed the league-wide trend of introducing stack pick and rolls into their offensive playbook over the past two seasons. It leverages their best players' top skills, as their backcourt is tremendous in pick and roll scenarios, while Kyle Lowry in particular is a tremendous screener for his size. Dwayne Casey has implimented the use of stack pick and rolls by toying around with how the action is initiated, but has recently settled on going 4 flat along the baseline before lifting the screeners for the high ball screen. The Wildcats ran this SLOB several times during the semifinal matchup vs Kansas. At the 13:17 in the second half, the inbounder looked to Spellman (5) for a short corner turnaround jumper (seen in Frame 1). In the first half (14:21), Brunson (1) used the ball screen to set up the fill behind shooter after Spellman's ball screen (Frame 3). Basketball Play - Loyola-Chicago - Chin Stagger DHO

Loyola-Chicago - Chin Stagger DHO

Matt Wheeler 03/30/2018

Loyola-Chicago uses this play to shift the defense from one side of the floor to the other by allowing the ball to touch a different side of the floor at least four times during a given possession. Each time the ball switches sides of the floor, defensive players on the weak side of the floor have to sprint into help. When the ball gets back on their side of the floor, they then have to close out to contain the ball. Forcing the defense to move and make continual closeouts usually results in defensive breakdowns. This is how the Ramblers are able to attack the paint and get open shots. See More

Basketball Play - Villanova Wildcats - Stagger Split BLOB

Villanova Wildcats - Stagger Split BLOB

Tony Miller 03/29/2018

The Villanova Philosophy: When 5 of your top 6 players shoot 39% or better from 3, you run as many stagger screens and pin down screens as possible to get those shooters open from deep. And if the defender shows on the second screen in the stagger, the 5 man slips to the bucket for an easy bucket. Final Four Breakdown: Villanova Wildcats - XsOs Behind the Dominance See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Wolverines - Pop Slice Rip

Michigan Wolverines - Pop Slice Rip

Dave Nedbalek 03/27/2018

Don't be fooled but the lack of "success" of these set plays in the video clip below. The coaching staffs in post-season play are so well scouted and the teams are elite in preperation that oftentimes the desired shot is not available. Nonetheles, the analytics surrounding side changes and paint touches remains true, as they break the defense down with each action. This set presents several shot opportunities, and the spacing is so phenoenal that however the defense plays it, there will be scoring options with the advantage created. See More
