Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a Stan Van Gundy play that the Detroit Pistons have been running frequently to start the game during their run of victories. It is perfect against a team that shows against side pick and rolls, and they used it last night against the Raptors. Brandon Jennings came off the screen hard looking to score and was rewarded with a floater in the paint. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis Chin action is initiated with a Dribble Handoff. This is just one continuity option that Indiana uses in their Chin offense. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a basic Horns set, with a common second side action to the play. It is important to teach and look for every read: 1. 1 hits 5 on the roll after screen 2. 4 pops and looks for shot if open 3. 4 looks for hi-lo entry to 5 4. 4 swings to side P/R with 2 5. 5 flashes/ducks-in middle, 4 pops to range See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere are just two options out of the many different looks available in a Horns Go set. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Horns set can also be a starting point for the Loop or Iverson set. This is a good way to put your best ballhandler in a single or double Side P/R, and can be run for any player to be the ballhandler. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOle Miss ran this action in the first half of their First Round NCAA game against BYU. The pindown/catch and shoot action in this play is a decoy for the 5 to create seperation from his defender to set a high ballscreen. As 5's defender is late and can only Zone the ballscreen rather than Showing, the replace action by the 4 leaves 4's defender as the only option to bump the 5 when he rolls out of the screen. Depending on how the defense reacts, there are a number of different scoring options here for the 1, 4, and 5. In this game, Ole Miss PG Summers attacked the paint, drew the defense in, and dumped the ball off to the 5 for a foul at the basket. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawRobert Morris used this play in the second half against North Florida in NCAA First Four action. This is a common NBA hawk set sometimes known as 351. The 3 man's defender has all of the work here, as he must commit to helping on the hawk screen just enough to force a difficult Show on the side p/r, and then must recover back to the pick and pop. In this game, UNF was aware of the play and x2 cheated off of his man to rotate to the 3 man on the pick and pop. Lucky Jones was still able to get the defender off his feet, however, and drew a 3 shot foul. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGeorgia ran this action out of a Forwards Out set against the Spartans in the round of 64. There is a lot of good action here, but it is ultimately designed to set up a quick spread pick and roll that can de extremely difficult to guard with multiple shooters on the floor. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWichita State ran this set around the 10:00 mark of the first half in their NCAA matchup against Notre Dame, resulting in a 3pt basket. This play features multiple scoring options, with a backscreen lob option for 1, a ballscreen for the 2, and a stagger screen for the 3, not to mention opportunities for the bigs to slip on any screen. Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother excellent play from the Wichita State playbook, this coming late in the 2nd half against Notre Dame. It's a double high ballscreen, with 5 setting first and a shooting 3 setting the second screen. In defending this play, because x3 stays attached to his man, x5 has to stop penetration and x2 has to pull in to bump 5 on the roll. This leaves the 2 open in the corner for a throwback 3, which was no problem for a talented PG like VanVleet to find. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSimilar to a set play we saw from SMU in the round of 64, North Carolina ran this look against Wisconsin in the Sweet 16. The first look is for the 5 man over the top for a lob. If the lob isn't there, 5 seals for a post up. A weakside stagger occupies any help for the post defender. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis Slice option for the Celtics was a quick hitter that could be run at any time in early offense and didn’t need to be a called set. It is a quick reversal to the 3, into a Side P/R. With Pierce at the 3, there are a number of threats here that are difficult to guard. When KG is at the 4, the Pick and Pop is difficult to guard. If x2 pulls in to defend against the duck-in from 5, Ray Allen is sitting in the corner waiting to strike. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play comes straight from the Mike D’Antoni playbook, and sets up exactly like the basic Slice action that Doc Rivers used in Boston. While the option is there to bring any great post up player to the block, as D’Antoni often did with Carmelo Anthony in New York, this is really just a Spread High P/R in disguise. This is a money play for Chris Paul. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAnother set out of the Mike D’Antoni playbook, 4 Pop is designed for a shooting 4. While Blake Griffin has improved his midrange jumper each year, the main advantage of this set is putting Blake 1 on 1 against his usually slower defender at the top of the key. His driving ability makes this play an ideal Slice counter for the Clippers, and an option that the Celtics likely would not have been able to utilize with KG. A clear side P/R with Blake and CP3 is also a great 2nd option to have. See More
