Basketball Play - Zone Set: 5 Out Screen In

Zone Set: 5 Out Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. Using the 5 Out alignment, all five offensive players are on the outside of the zone, giving great opportunity to screen in. This is a chance to create an easy 3pt opportunity. Browse more coaching content available on the Sellfy store: https://sellfy.com/coachhack.go/ Follow me on Twitter - @CoachHackGO See More

Basketball Play - Zone Set: Swing Flare

Zone Set: Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a zone offense set play. I like how the play stretches the defense side to side, and overloads the defense. This is a low risk set that can produce a three-point shot. Video below. Basketball Play - Horns: Push Gate Series

Horns: Push Gate Series

Matt Hackenberg 12/22/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play series out of a horns alignment. The dribble push enters the set. The first two options are slipping the gate screen, and turning the corner on the dribble push for a clear out. The next option is using the gate screen, which goes into a pin or flare option, similar to a blocker/mover action. Video below. Basketball Play - Blocker Mover Offense

Blocker Mover Offense

Matt Hackenberg 12/20/2021

The blocker-mover offense has always been interesting to me, and I learned a lot about the offense in crunching the film. Between the diagrams and embedded video, the different options are covered. I really like this offense as a way to feature your post players. Video below. Basketball Play - Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB that ends in a double flare screen. I think it's an interesting action, but maybe a set to save for use at the right time instead of using it often. I think the movement pattern has great felxibility to be paired with other options that look similar in flow, but don't use the double flare. Video below. Basketball Play - Box Chicago Flare SLOB

Box Chicago Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB with a good amount of movement from a box alignment. I like the Chicago action for the DHO, and how the ball changes from side to side to set up the flare. Basketball Play - 21 Series Transition Offense

21 Series Transition Offense

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

The 21 series is usually a 3-player action that happens right out of transition. The bunch action makes the options easy to disguise, almost like play action fakes in football. There are a variety of actions that can come from this series, and they all develop quickly, making them ideal for teams that want to play with a fast tempo. Not all the diagrams are represented with clips in the video below, but this was all I could dig up on film. Basketball Play - "21" High Ball Screen Attack

"21" High Ball Screen Attack

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a simple ball screen concept. We used this when we had two attacking guards we wanted to keep out front, allowing them to create by using a ball screen or rejecting into the gap. We wanted to keep shooters in the corners as much as possible. For as simple as the cocnept was, it was fairly effective against good competition. We started to add other options to make the offense less predictable with the zip and DHO options. Video clips below. Basketball Play - 5 Out DHO Flare

5 Out DHO Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

This set uses some misdirections to set up a flare screen for our shooter. We want to get the defense watching the ball while we set up a dribble at flare. With the space created by the flare, we want to shoot or attack the close out. Video clip below. Basketball Play - 5 Out Double Flare "Special"

5 Out Double Flare "Special"

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

We used a 5 Out pass and cut offense which set up this play perfectly. When the designated shooter got to the top of the key we double-flared the back side and dribbled at the flare screens. We used a numbering system for our personnel - the point guard was the 1, shooting guard was the 2, etc. So I would call "Special 2" to indicate we were running the flare screens for the shooting guard in our system. Basketball Play - 5 Out: False Go Flare

5 Out: False Go Flare

Matt Hackenberg 12/07/2021

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a flare screen from a 5 Out transition. It doesn’t generate the most efficient shot, but as you can see from the video, it is EXTREMELY hard to stop. If you have point guard that can really shoot it, this action can create a ton a wide open looks. Basketball Play - Princeton Chin

Princeton Chin

Matt Hackenberg 12/05/2021

This diagram and film looks at the basic Princeton Chin action. The action is a bit monotonous, but can be very effective. The action is a continuity, so you can just keep running it until you get a scoring opportunity. It's very good against pressure defense. Basketball Play - The Spread Offense

The Spread Offense

Matt Hackenberg 12/03/2021

In this diagram and embedded video, we look at the spread offense used in high school basketball. This offense uses the high post and a series of cutters to attack the defense in a variety of ways. This offensive concept has always been a unique and interesting play style to me, ever since I first saw it when Stephen F. Austin was running it under Brad Underwood in the early 2010's. The offense has evolved quite a bit, but in the video below you will see a lot of the more basic options used when it is ran at the high school level.
