As 1 dribbles off the ball screen from 4, 2 cuts to the opposite corner. This clears the area so 5 can look to post up without any help defenders around. Radford opened their NCAA tournament game against Villlanova with this quick hitter that got them an open three-point shot. 3 clears to the opposite corner to open up the righ side of the floor. 5 uses the screen from 2 to sprint into a ball screen for 1. Ohio State opened the second half of their game against South Dakota State with this play designed to attack the Jackrabbits for double-teaming the post. Once 5 receives the post entry pass from 1, x4 double teams him 5. x2 now has to defend both 2 & 4 but was unable to take away the pass to 4 diving to the rim. If x2 was able to take away the pass to 4, 2 would be open on the wing for a three-point shot. See More

Loyola Chicago ran the best set play of the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. This "Punch Hammer" set resulted in a wide open 3, to tie the game, late in the second half. The post entry sucks in the help defense, before the baseline skip pass (HAMMER ACTION) led to the important 3pt shot. The Ramblers of Loyola Chicago went on to upset Miami, on a buzzer beater, and beat Nevada and Kansas State en route to the Final Four. After passing to 4, 1 followed the pass looking for a handoff. 5 then set a flare screen for 2. This occupied the help defense on the right side of the floor, and isolated 3 against his defender.
