Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Golden State Warriors "Rip DHO"

Gibson Pyper 05/07/2015

Normally Curry brings the ball up the floor, but in this set the player they want to try and free up for a layup (often the 3 man such as Barnes or Iguadola) will bring the ball up. The player bringing the ball up will pass to trailing big man and receives a backscreen from Curry, looking to get a layup off the screen is the first option. If the man is covered on the backscreen, Curry then receives a dribble hand off from the big who then rolls to the rim. The second option is great because Curry's man has to help or at least show to prevent a layup, allowing Curry to come off the dribble handoff typically unimpeded. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Pistol Slip vs. Show

Golden State Pistol Slip vs. Show

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

This was a smartly executed play that the Warriors used against the Grizzlies in Game 2. Knowing that the x3 would show against any Pistol Step Up screen, Stephen Curry quickly spun back out of the P/R and reversed the ball to David Lee. Harrison Barnes immediately slipped out of the screen and to the basket for an easy lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies Fist 2 vs. Ice

Memphis Grizzlies Fist 2 vs. Ice

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

Memphis ran this action in Game 2 against Golden State. The "Fist 2" set is a staple of the Chicago Bulls offense using Derrick Rose, and the Grizzlies used it well here against the Warriors, who "Ice" against the Side P/R. The 5 man screens against the Ice, and the 2 man drives hard to occupy x5 on the help. This set works best with a 5 man who can short roll or pop into the pocket created by the Ice, and having a great duck-in 4 man like Zach Randolph to occupy the weakside help works even better! Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

Memphis ran this early offense action in Game 2 versus the Warriors. It features a thru cut by Mike Conley, and several different options branching off. 5 sets a wide pindown for 2 while 1 finishes his thru cut and curls off of 4 on the block. 3 can hit 2 on the pindown, 1 on the thru cut, or 4 sealing for a post up. If none of these options are available, 3 can reverse back to 2 and set up 2-man game with the 5, opening up a whole new set of options. See More

Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies SOG Hi-Lo

Memphis Grizzlies SOG Hi-Lo

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

This was the opening play for the Grizzlies in Game 2 versus the Warriors. There is a lot of moment to this play and it presents multiple options, making it a great play to get your offense started. This play presents two opportunities for Zach Randolph to post up on either block, and really takes advantage of Marc Gasol's ability in hi-lo situations. See More

Georgetown Double Back-Cut

Wes Kosel 05/06/2015

1 passes to 2 then cuts into the lane and out to the right corner. 4 and 3 exchange on the back-side. 2 passes to 3 who reverses the ball to 4. Once 4 has the ball, 3 cuts through the lane and 5 steps across the lane and posts up. If 5 isn't open, 4 dribbles towards the top of the key as 2 makes a back-cut. If 2 isn't open, 4 continues his dribble as 1 makes a back-cut. 1 finishes his cut with a cross-screen for 5 inside. See More

Basketball Play - Creighton Box 1

Creighton Box 1

Wes Kosel 05/02/2015

In this box set play from Creighton, the post players start on the left side of the lane and the wings start on the right side. 2 screens down for 3 who cuts to the right wing for a shot. After 2 sets the screen for 3, he sprints between a double-screen from 4 and 5 to the left wing. 4 and 5 close the screen once 2 has cleared to close off 2's defender from getting through. See More

Basketball Play - Washington Wizards "Post Rub Rip Empty"

Washington Wizards "Post Rub Rip Empty"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

Another counter to a normal set that teams ran in the regular season is an empty set from the Washington Wizards. The Wizards normally run a post rub into a cross screen for the big man to get a post touch, but in the playoffs they ran a counter that had the guard who normally screens the big man, runs to the corner. The other big flashes to the elbow to empty the paint and allows the big to seal his man and have an entry for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors "PNR Post DHO"

Toronto Raptors "PNR Post DHO"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

The Toronto Raptors run a nice set to get Demar Derozan moving into a quick jump shot or backdoor opportunity. Starting off with a hi ballscreen for Lowry and as he comes off it 5 seals his man in the post. After the post entry 5 turns and looks to either dribble handoff to 2 or if he is overplayed he cuts backdoor for a layup. See More

Basketball Play - Los Angeles Clippers "Horns Seal Leak"

Los Angeles Clippers "Horns Seal Leak"

Gibson Pyper 04/30/2015

Doc Rivers loves to get Chris Paul & Blake Griffin in a Post Pick & Roll situation to put the defense in a tough situation. Out of this set, they ran a counter late against the San Antonio Spurs to get Chris Paul moving and attacking off a double screen. Instead of setting a flex screen and then sealing his man for a post up, Paul leaks out and receives a dribble handoff from Blake Griffin and attacks off a ballscreen from DeAndre Jordan. See More
