Basketball Play - 5-Out Circle Movement Cone Drill

5-Out Circle Movement Cone Drill

Coach Czes 09/24/2012

Cones are set up with tennis balls (or similar sized ball) on top of them in the 5 spots as diagrammed. Player 1 has "the ball" and the other 4 teammates are ready to react to "dribble penetration". Player 1 starts the action by picking the ball up off of the cone and sprinting to the basket. As soon as Player 1's ball leaves the cone, the other 4 players must Circle Move, taking their ball with them. Player 1 must put the ball in the basket (layup or dunk!) before the other 4 players place their ball on the next cone. The player moving from the corner along the baseline must place the ball on the opposite short corner cone. The last player to complete their task has an exercise (jump squats, pushups, etc) 5 fills out to corner, 1 fills open spot, and 3 becomes the player with the ball. You can start the ball from any of the 5 spots, and the player with the ball gets to choose which direction to dribble penetrate. *VARIATIONS - last 2, 3, or 4, players have to do the exercise; 4 against 1 - the player with the ball has to beat the other 4, See More

Basketball Play - Triple

Triple

Rich Czeslawski 06/20/2012

On Triple, we want the ball pushed down the sideline as early as possible. In this frame, 1 pushes the ball down the right side to the two. We would ideally like 2 to catch (or dribble to) the free throw line extended. On 2's catch, the 5, 1, and 4 will quick screen across the lane for 3 who comes off the triple screen looking for the quick three point shot. 2 should pass to 3 if open. If x4 steps out to stop the pass from 2 to 3, we want the 3 to immediately backcut to the rim. As soon as 3 basket cuts, 4 will screen for 1 who will curl back for the three point shot. Depending on the game situation, we will take the layup or three point shot. Again, with simple cuts we are able to move quickly to a 1-4 high set or any other alignment necessary to begin our offensive possession if we are not able to get a good shot off our Triple Secondary play.
