Basketball Play - Ball Screen Reject - Screen In

Ball Screen Reject - Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 01/19/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a princeton alignment. I think this set is good to generate a open look for a shooter a couple times a game. The more the set is used, the less likely it is to trick the defense. Basketball Play - Set Play: Misdirection Backdoor ATO

Set Play: Misdirection Backdoor ATO

Matt Hackenberg 01/05/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at misdirection backdoor set that is best used as an ATO. I love the unassuming nature of the play. If used in moderation, this set can score a quick and easy two points for your team. Basketball Play - Push Zip Iverson Series - Blind Pig

Push Zip Iverson Series - Blind Pig

Matt Hackenberg 12/31/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a series of plays from the push zip Iverson movement series. The featured action in the video is the blind pig backdoor. This is a clever action, and with good timing it can be very tough to defend. Basketball Play - Box Misdirection Screen In

Box Misdirection Screen In

Matt Hackenberg 12/31/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set play for a three-point shot. I think this is a tricky action that can be used in "need a 3" situations. Pairing with other actions out of a box alignment will increase the set's effectiveness. Basketball Play - Delay Game: 4 Corners

Delay Game: 4 Corners

Matt Hackenberg 12/28/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a delay game strategy to control the clock, shorten the game, and make your opponent overextend. This strategy can be lethal when executed properly. It is dependent on not having a shot clock, but can be used with a shot clock, just without as deep of a threat. Video below. Basketball Play - Flare Gate Slip SLOB

Flare Gate Slip SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/17/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to look to steal a basket with a slip set. Having the most lethal scoring option coming off the gate screen increases the chances the defense will overreact to it. I don't think it matters which of the two screeners slip, as long as both don't slip. They want to be watching their defenders, and if either one gets above the level of the screen, slip into the open space. Basketball Play - Blind Pig Backdoor SLOB

Blind Pig Backdoor SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB to burn aggressive defense on a blind pig backdoor. This play is sexy when executed properly, but it is better mixed in with other options out of the same set up, instead of being a stand alone set play in your playbook. Video below. Basketball Play - Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Zip Slot Double Flare SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB that ends in a double flare screen. I think it's an interesting action, but maybe a set to save for use at the right time instead of using it often. I think the movement pattern has great felxibility to be paired with other options that look similar in flow, but don't use the double flare. Video below. Basketball Play - Zip HO Step Up Hammer SLOB

Zip HO Step Up Hammer SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/16/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a longer form SLOB to create a three-pointer off of hammer action. Sometimes I love this set, and other times, I wish it would just get to the point. I really do like flowing pattern of the set, and hammer action is one of my favorites. All of the action is set up up well using screens to make sure players are open when they need to be. Basketball Play - Curl Lob SLOB

Curl Lob SLOB

Matt Hackenberg 12/15/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a SLOB set to try to steak a quick bucket. With a solid screen by 1 against a defense that gets through screens, this can work. I like that 1 is the player setting the back screen, loosening up the defense so that they can go catch the ball if the lob isn't there. The lob pass is critical, so you want a trusted passer to making the decision to throw the lob or not. Video clip below.
