Adding in the defender on perimeter and allowing post to set down screen creates a game like situation.
Perimeter works on taking defense into the lane to set up coming off the screen.
Post player wants to set the screen on a spot on the floor that allows a quick pivot and post up. Don't want to set the screen too low or too high, but wants to set the ball as close to the block as possible.
Post players need to post up big and take up a lot of space. They want their back foot up and facing the passer. Both feet and chest need to be facing the passer. Also teach post players when posting they should be able to see the back of their hands while posting up on the block. Finger tips to the ceiling and palms up to improve the ability to catch.
Perimeter works on passing with pressure on the ball.
Coach starts with the ball on top. Post sets a down screen for perimeter player. Perimeter must work to get open against tough defense. Defender wants to make offensive player catch as far out as possible.
Once offense gets the ball they face up and look for the post player on the block. Perimeter player can use a maximum of 3 dribbles to improve the angle to get the ball to the post player.
Passer needs to work on ways to get the ball to the post. Use the term "Fake a pass to make a pass". Fake a pass high to make a bounce pass. To make an overhead pass get the defenders hands low by faking the bounce pass.
This is a read the defense drill. If the defender stays with the guard after the ball is thrown into the post then the post man takes the ball to the basket. If the defender on the ball goes to double the postman then the ball is thrown out for a perimeter jump shot.
