QUAD Offense Breakdown Drill
2v2 penetration drill to teach reading help (if any) from one pass away
Transition element with a 2v1 advantage or 2v2 included
Offense and defense start in tight at the top. Defensive player on the inside of the offense
This is not the spacing of the offense. We are starting tight to teach the concept of finding spacing and enlarging the defense.
1 dribbles to enlarge the defense. (No more than one or two lateral dribbles).
2 moves away to enlarge the defense and "widen the slots"
Player 1 then attacks the middle and gains a small advantage. 1 reads the shoulder or chest of the help defense.
First Read
X2 shows chest and 2 cuts behind to receive TOSS from 1 (transfer small advantage to big advantage).
2 catches to shoot
Second read
shoulder help (no help) = drive for lay up
The players should stay on offense and defense three times in a row. Give three guided defensive reads:
• chest - pass for shot
• shoulder - drive for lay up
• choice of chest or shoulder (Live)
Flip the drill and play left to right as well
After the shot work on defensive balance. Anyone above the foul line extended returns as safeties for defense. Below the foul line extended goes for an offensive rebound
2v1 Transition
After the third repetition add transition. The two defenders must outlet or inbound the ball to one of the coaches. And attack the other basket
Player above FTLE when shot goes up (2) retreats on defense and RED team converts 2v1
2v2 Option
Both original offensive players convert to defense
Next Progression
Have the players now think about passing to the player who has just split the defense after passing behind.
Next Progression
Introduce the relay pass by passing to coach who his the cutter
