Covering down on the post (aka doubling down) can lead to silly fouls if not drilled properly. We like to emphasize digging up, all the while not losing sight of our own man. Easier said than done.
Whistle 1: Both defenders pressure and trace the ball within an arm's length. Offense uses a combination of pass fakes and pivots to keep the defense adjusting "in & out."
Whistle 2: Ball is passed to the post (3). Defenders retreat step, coverdown and dig up at the ball all the while maintaining sight of their man (2).
Whistle 3: Post (3) passes back out to 2. Defenders closeout and again pressure the ball.
Whistle 4: Offense simulates a shot by "shooting" to 3. x1 yells, "Shot! Check!" and blocks out 2. Rotate accordingly.
