About This Play/Drill

Here are 5 of my favorite shooting drills that I like to use in workouts with my players. They are challenging, competitive, and fun helping players become more efficient shooters. Try them out!

  • Basketball Play - 5 NBA Shooting Drills
  • Ten Makes in 90 Seconds

 

Player starts in corner.

-Player has to make 2 shots before moving to the next spot.

- Once a player makes 2, player has to sprint and touch half court before moving to the next spot.

- Player has 90 seconds to complete 10 makes.

- If they complete 10 makes with time left, they can start to go back around the horn.

 

*If they do complete 10 makes under 90 seconds, then the next goal is 2 makes at each spot have to be consecutive (2 in a row).*

 

  • 3 In A Row

Teaching Points

- Shot ready - hands and feet prepared before the catch

- Staying in rhythm from the different spots shooting

- Finish shots!

Coach is the passer and a teammate/partner is rebounding.

Player 1 starts by filling up from the corner for a catch and shoot 3 at the top of the key. (Blue)

 

  • Once player 1 shoots from the top of the key, player 1 will jog to under the basket and then sprint cut out to the corner for a catch & shoot 3.
  • After player 1 shoots from the corner they will sprint up to half court and then come back for a transition 3 from the wing.
    Repeat the same sequence until the player makes 3 in a row TWICE. Switch sides after.

 

  • Can't Miss 2

 

Player will shoot from the 5 spots shaded on the floor.

- Player will stay at one spot making as many shots as they can.

- Once the player misses 2 in a row, they move to the next spot.

- YOU WILL OFFICIALLY START ON YOUR FIRST MAKE.

- SCORE IS RECORDED AFTER YOUR FIRST MAKE: 1 is the least you can score.

 

  • Klay Thompson
  • 1st Shot (Pin Down)
    - Player 2 starts under the rim making a change of speed cut to pop out straight to the wing for a catch & shoot.
  • 2nd Shot (Drift)
    - After the catch & shoot from the wing, player 2 will drift to the corner for a catch & shoot.
  • 3rd Shot (Elevator)
    - After the catch & shoot in the corner, player 2 will run back to under the basket and then change speed/direction to cut straight to the top of the key for a catch & shoot.
  • 4th Shot (Flare)
    - After the catch & shoot at the top of the key, player 2 will start walking towards the nail and change speed/direction to cut out to the right wing for a catch & shoot.
  • 5th Shot (Transition Corner 3)
    - After the catch & shoot from the right wing, player 2 will sprint to touch half court and then sprint to the right corner for a catch & shoot.
    Player 1 starts inside the half court circle. Their partner (player 2) will be the passer, rebounder, and time player 1 in the drill.

 

 

  • Kobe Drill

- Player gets ready to get a shot at the top of the key (green). If player misses, has to start back at half court.

- If player makes shot, player will then go to touch the right sideline and get a shot from the wing (blue). If player misses, repeat (touch sideline).

- If they make it, they sprint to the opposite sideline to get a shot from the left slot (purple).

  • Once player makes the shot, they sprint back to touch half court and get another shot from the top of they key (orange). If player misses from left side slot, touch left sideline and repeat. Miss from the top, touch half court and repeat.

- Goal is to make 4 shots under 18 seconds
