Spread Ball Screen vs. 2-3 Zone #ZoneOffenseTips + #SBSoffense
For more on spread ball screen offense:
Prefer going into the double side.
X2 is the key read. Most often teams will seal the drive from 1 with X2. In which case ball goes to 4. 5 must roll to the block, don't get fronted by X5.
Now we have x3 triangulated. If X3 freezes or stays flat, shoot or drive into the gap between X3 and X2
If the forward X3, flies out, "one more" to the corner. 1 and 2 fill triangles between defenders
3 may also enter to 5
Prefer going into the double side.
x2 is the key read. Most often they will seal the drive from 1 with X2, but at times X5 will step up to stop drive and X2 will play the pass to 4.
We now have no numbers advantage to that side. That is an automatic throw back to guard rising from corner. On the throwback, 3 sprints the baseline to create the overload.
Now we have the same reads against x4. 2 may shoot on the catch or drive the gap if X4 stays flat.
If x4 flies out, "one more" to 3. 3 may shoot or...
...3 may enter to 5
If the ball is kicked to high wing and the defense does a good job matching up to the double side after the spread ball screen...
(Note: we could find ourselves here even after a one more to 3 who didn't like shot/drive or entry to 5 and passes back up to 4)
4 dribbles into SBS again. 1 and 2 form the double side. We now have the same reads vs. x1. If x1 seal, kick to double side and read the forward. If X1 takes the high wing and x5 steps up to stop drive from 4 then throwback and overload.
