A ball screen continuity offense using the SHORT roll and SHORT corner.
Full breakdown: XTRA X's & O's: "Short" Ball Screen Continuity
1 widens dribble to outside the pro lane as 5 walks into the ball screen. Screen the "back pocket" of the on-ball defender. 2 and 3 in corners at rim depth. 4 in SHORT corner behind the defense.
5 rolls looking for quick pocket or hook pass. If pass comes to 5 on roll, he/she scores or looks to lob to 4.
Options for 1:
Drive to score
Hit 5 on roll
Draw and lob with 4
Throwback to 2 on short shake
Kickout to 3 (shown), catch & shoot or possible stampede into the catch and drive. If not, this is the next ball screen recipient. Slow down!
After kickout, 1 sprint to ballside corner.
SHORT
Oftentimes, hitting the roller quickly causes the player guarding 4 here feel as if they need to help prevent the roller from scoring. In this case, roller can lob as shown
Wide PnR! We want wide PnRs, set outside the pro lane line.
4 comes out to ball screen for 3. 1 short shakes behind the screen. Same options exist for 2. Kickout to 2 shown, could stampede the catch or shoot on the catch. IF neither, 2 is next ball screen recipient. 3 sprints to ball side corner after the kickout.
2 receives ball screen from 5...
...on kickout, 1 either catch and shoot, stampede the catch or wait for the walk out ball screen from 4.
Don't forget the lob opportunity when we SHORT the ball screen!
