Here is a zone lob play used by head coach Jeff Culver at UCCS (University of Colorado-Colorado Springs). The UCCS Mountain Lions had an incredible season going 27-6 and winning the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament Championship over Metro State. This play was used to get Derrick White (25.8 ppg) a dunk against a 2-3 zone defense. The play starts with the ball moving to the wing and back to the point guard. With White on the wing, a back-screen is set as he sneaks in behind the defense for a lob and a dunk.
1 passes to 3. X4 jumps out to guard the ball on the wing.
3 passes back to 1 at the top of the key.
As the defense shifts, x4 moves back towards the lane into defensive position.
As this happens, 1 dribbles towards the left wing shifting the defense towards the ball.
3 makes a cut to the basket as 4 screens x5 in the middle of the lane.
1 looks to make the lob pass over the top to 3.
