Basketball Play - 1-4 Low Rise Fake Hand Off Iso

1-4 Low Rise Fake Hand Off Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at set play out a 1-4 low alignment. Both posts flash to the elbows and the ball is entered there. The strong side wing cuts off the ball and the hand off is faked. After faking the hand off, the post spins in the opposite direction to drive the open side. Basketball Play - Fake Hand Off Gap Drive

Fake Hand Off Gap Drive

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 2-1-2 alignment. This play gives a forward a nice opportunity to drive double gap to score or kick to a shooter in the corner. This play is best used in a series where the ball is entered the same way, but the hand off actually takes place. Basketball Play - Flash Backdoor Iso

Flash Backdoor Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the 4 corners alignment. I love using 4 corners to organize for the last shot of the quarter or half. This set gives a backdoor option, and if that's not open the 5 can turn and face to go one-on-one. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Iso

Fake DHO Iso

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at set play to clear out the baseline for a drive. This play is really simple, and only involves two players, so teams with limited personnel could use this play to limit the number of players handling the ball. Reading the wing backdoor on the catch by 4 is an option, although not explored in this clip. This play won't work every time, but when it does it will likely be for a layup. Basketball Play - Princeton Stack Series

Princeton Stack Series

Matt Hackenberg 04/14/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a series of plays out of the Princeton alignment that start with a stack. These plays work well together, all have minor tweaks to make them different but are simple to execute. Building this series around a dynamic driver is a wise thing to do. Basketball Play - 1 on 1 Guard Drill

1 on 1 Guard Drill

Matt Hackenberg 04/13/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look one of my favorite defensive drills. I don't see this concept being taught much. The drill is to teach defenders to stay between the ball and the rim in high conflict situations, and force the offense take the toughest shot possible without fouling. Your players can get very good at this skill if it is emphasized enough. Basketball Play - Box Overload Clear Out

Box Overload Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a sideline clear out from a box alignment. The set uses a coordinated movement of bodies to create the space for the PG to attack. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at play design for a point guard to drive the ball to an empty baseline. They can decide to drive as an isolation, or to skip the pass to the back side for a hammer set. Either way, the defense is misdirected with the fake hand off, and stretched side to side with the hammer action. This set is gold. Basketball Play - Push Reject Clear Out

Push Reject Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a clear out for a point guard to drive an empty baseline. This looks like a dribble entry into the euro ball screen. That was always my favorite feature of the euro ball screen offense - rejecting the screen to the empty baseline. Basketball Play - Overload PG Clear Out

Overload PG Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a simple overload set. I don't think there is any other option on this play, just a simple clear out. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Clear Out

Fake DHO Clear Out

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a clear out option for a point guard. Fake handoffs on the wing are great misdirection to set up the baseline drive, especially when paired with something where the handoff is used.
