Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Dallas Mavericks used the same "curl" structure when trying to get a lob for Shawn Marion. Coaches simply run the player they want to lob off a downscreen, then have him curl back around towards the rim - and Rick Carlisle did this at the end of a preseason game. This particular of play is called "Zipper Go Back". See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play starts with a wing entry pass followed by a hand off. 1 gets on ball screen from 4 and drives to the paint. Next look is to 2 and dump down pass to 5 on block. Third option is to look for 3 curling off screen away by 4. Give it a try! See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn 2008 against his former team the Raptors, Vince Carter hit a clutch game-tying three pointer. The play was excellently drawn up by Lawrence Frank, which draws attention to every player on the court besides Vince Carter, a good way to get him free. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a secondary break play that is run by the San Antonio Spurs and many other teams. The play goes right into pinch post action at the end of it. Favorite Send to FastDrawQuick hitter to catch the defense off guard by setting multiple screens on the defenders. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis baseline out of bounds play from North Carolina was used a few years ago to get Tyler Zeller posted on the block. I love the stagger action on the weakside to minimize any help in the post. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSpain ran this beautiful quick hitter to post-up Marc Gasol in their game versus Macedonia yesterday. After 3 cross-screens for 5 I would love to add 4 pinning down for 3. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn an end game set against the Pacers, Jeff Green used a rub action from Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett to get free for a lob at the rim and put in the game-winning layup. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawGregg Marshall's Wichita State team ran this baseline out of bounds play versus Louisville in the 2013 Final Four. This play has multiple screening actions that make it nearly impossible to cover every option. To see EVERY play Wichita State ran in the 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw#1 dribbles off of 4's ballscreen. 3 sets an upscreen for 5 to get open on the block. Immediate look into the post for 5. If 5 is not open 1 hits 4 up top. 4 swings the ball to 3. 2 sets a cross screen for 5 on the block. 3 looks for 5 on the block. If 5 is not open, then 2 gets a down screen from 4. 2 should be open at the FT line or top of the key. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAfter Carter buried the Raptors and sent the game to OT, he got another chance to win it in the extra frame. Lawrence Frank drew up another lob play for him, once again banking on the defense paying attention to players other than Carter. The misdirection lob play is a staple in SLOB situations, and Carter does a great job selling the screen to set it up. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMacedonia ran this Early Offense stagger action today in International play versus Spain. The goal would be to get 3 coming off the stagger looking to score. If not the post up for one of the bigs is another viable option. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn 2008, Jay Triano drew this play for a high handoff with Chris Bosh, who would likely pop out and set a ballscreen. Instead, the play worked out so that Bosh's presence with the ball would serve as a decoy for an off-ball player to cut backdoor and receive a pass from the man Bosh pitches the ball to. See More
Favorite Send to FastDraw1 On 1 I recommend starting this drill 1-on-1 first. Start with one rebounder (X1) with their head just in front of the rim and the first offensive rebounder at the elbow opposite the coach with the ball. Place the rest of the team in a line; they are all on offense. Once the coach shoots the ball, X1 must block out 1 and rebound the ball. The play is not over until X1 has secured the ball. The only way for X1 to get out of the drill is to make five consecutive stops (The offense cannot rebound the ball). The number is interchangeable but five is a good starting point. 2 On 2 War (2-on-2) really encourages a more competitive team atmosphere. Divide your players into two teams and put four minutes on the clock. One team will go to the baseline and the other team to the top of the key. Place a coach at the free-throw/1-point line area with a ball. The clocks starts once the coach shoots the ball. X1 and X2 are responsible for blocking out 1 and 2 respectively. If the defense rebounds the ball, they receive one point. If the offense rebounds the ball, the drill is not over; they must score in order to receive a point. At this point the drill is still not over, the offense should attempt to grab as many rebounds as possible and score as many points as possible. The drill is not over until the defense secures the basketball. Once the buzzer sounds and the current group finishes, keep the scores up on the board and flip offense to defense. Put another four minutes back up on the clock and start the drill again. Remember, the team now on offense was just on defense and vice versa, so make sure you are still giving points to the correct team. (i.e.: If at the end of the first four minutes the offensive team {Team A} scored 11 points, once they become the defense their first defensive rebound would get {Team A} 12 points and so on). If there is a high intensity level, keep the drill going and go through another session. Once you are satisfied with your team’s effort tally up the scores. Let the winning team grab water first while the losing team runs. See More
