Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Memphis Grizzlies ran this down 4 with 20 seconds left in an NBA Summer League game. In this situation they would need 2 scores and they opted to go for the 3 coming out of a timeout. The multiple screening actions from 4 & 5 caused the defensive confusion and led to an open shot for 4. 4 & 5's defenders have to guard back to back screening actions, first with the Iverson cut made by 2 and then the elevator screen for 3. If 5 cut to the basket instead of drifting to the perimeter he might have gotten a layup or at least would have created more space for the shot from 4. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Washington Wizards ran this down 3 with 6.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League quarterfinals. It gives them two options for a 3 point shot with a curl off of a double screen for a guard and a flare screen for a big. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawDown 2 with 1.8 seconds left in overtime, the Phoenix Suns ran this sideline out of bound play to get Tyler Ulis an open 3pt look for the win. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe premise of this drill is to mimic quick action in early offense. This will improve your screening, how your guys/girls catch and shoot and read the defense. On the flip side your defense will be able to not let cutters cut without being bumped and improve communication. We play a game to seven. There are three options to this drill outlined below. Drill #1 is a UCLA cut. Drill #2 works on the Ghost Screen and drill #3 has a backdoor option. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe San Antonio Spurs summer league team ran an End of Game (EOG) play to beat the Warriors at the buzzer with a lob to Jonathan Simmons. The play showed how teams could take advantage of defenses that hard hedge (when the screener’s defender steps in the path of player coming off the screen) or switch off ball screens. Kyle Anderson is tasked with inbounding the ball, in the stronger side corner is the Spurs best shooter in DeJounte Murray. His job is not to move from that spot and keep the floor spread. Bryn Forbes is in the weakside corner and it appears as if CJ Williams and Simmons are setting a double staggered for Forbes. As Forbes comes off the first screen, Simmons’ defender jumps out early to hedge on the screen and make it a difficult entry pass to Forbes. As soon as the defender hedges Simmons slips right to the basket without ever setting the screen. Anderson throws the lob but it is a little off target but Simmons uses his athleticism to catch the ball, gather himself and goes straight up to score over the defense. Even if the defense switched in this situation Simmons would have the superior position as he has a direct lane to the basket and there would be no one in between him and the ball. The play above is a great example of a team slipping a screen to take advantage of teams See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawClose games in NBA Summer League are a great time to experiment with sets and end of game plays (EOG) for coaching staffs. The Los Angeles Lakers executed a great pick the picker action to buy D’Angelo Russell enough time to hit the game winning three. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a play we used to win a game this year. It is best used against a 2-3 zone. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe University of Virginia ran this to get a lob dunk versus a zone defense. The 2 slice cut through the lane and got the pass from 1 who quickly continued to reverse the ball to 3 on the left wing. The 3 then reverses course with the ball ultimately sending it back to the 1. The 4 and 5 on the baseline interchanged and set back screens on the bottom of the zone. The exchange made it tough for the zone to realize they were being screened and fight through. The 1 threw the ball up to 3 at the rim for the lob over the zone. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOpening Set of Game 2 of 2016 NBA Finals. 3 brings ball up. 4 sets rub screen for 1 who slice cuts to right wing. 5 dives to block and gets cross screen from 2. 5 then cuts into a step up ball screen on the right side of the floor. 3 passes ball to 1 on move who uses step up screen from 5 and attacks rim. Favorite Send to FastDrawGreat BLOB we used at VCU to get a layup looks for our best scorer. Often times leads to a guard/wing backscreen opportunity that may yield a switch or miscommunication. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSLOB play for a 4 who can shoot or if you are playing small ball. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Oklahoma City Thunder run a great backdoor set for Russell Westbrook with Kevin Durant passing. After intial action similar to floppy, Durant comes off a pindown into a dribble hand off. After the hand off he hesitates looks at Westbrook who then plants and goes backdoor. Look for the Thunder to unleash this set in the conference finals, typically after a time out. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a set Miami uses to create drive and kick play. If 2's man goes under on the DHO, 1 must set screen on the low side of 5.. If 2's man goes over on the DHO, 1 must set screen on the high side. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIn the Eastern Conference semi-finals, Miami has given the Toronto Raptors various problems in defending their small ball line-up. Toronto continues to struggle keeping their men in front (defending dribble penetration). Here is an ATO Miami uses to create dribble penetration. Ultimately using slip as counter - using this action throughout the series... Wade rejects high ball from Winslow. See More
