Basketball Play - Horns Elbow Stagger Handoff

Horns Elbow Stagger Handoff

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of the horns alignment. This action is simple and effective. It's hard for the defense to chase for that long through three screens. This set naturally leads into a two-person game if the shooter is not open off the hand off. Basketball Play - 1-4 High: Elbow Curl Stagger

1-4 High: Elbow Curl Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-4 high alignment. After the elbow entry, 1 sets the little on big screen for 5 to hard curl. This looks to be a good option as well. If the curl draws too much attention, the shooter is a good option coming off the stagger. Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. The ball handler uses the horns ball screens and reads the strong side backdoor, or the shooter coming off the double veer on the back side. Box Fake Handoff Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment. The wing entry and over cut acts as a misdirection, while the stagger screen sets up on the other side. I like this as a simple set play when you need a three. Basketball Play - Corner STS Stagger

Corner STS Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a funky alignment. I like this set a lot. I don't exactly know why, and it seems like a lot of the other screen the screener actions I've seen but I like this one. The initial down screens should help the set run more fluidly against pressure defense. Basketball Play - Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Horns Elbow Flare BS Veer Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a horns alignment. This is a pretty sexy set play with a lot going on. I do think this is more substance than style, and I believe some of the initial options in the set may present opportunities for good shots before the stagger screen. 1-4 High: Push Moon

Matt Hackenberg 01/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a 1-4 high alignment. I like this action because it keeps the defense busy with action on both sides of the court. Obviously you need a great decision maker to handle the ball in this action. In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for a stagger screen. The stagger screen also draws attention away from the post up. The set can be used to get the ball into the post or for the shooter coming off the stagger screen. Misdirection DHO Gate

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an elevater screen. The set starts in a 1-2-2 alignment and uses pin downs to get the wing entry, which is a DHO. The action starts flowing the other way while the gate screen is set up behind the play for the misdirection. Basketball Play - Triple Baseline Screen

Triple Baseline Screen

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for three-point shot. This set requires great timing. I like it for a short clock attempt to find a three. I also think it sets up for the misdirection backdoor set on the back side of the play off of a reverse pivot by the ball handler, although we don't see that in this clip below. Basketball Play - Stagger Post Option

Stagger Post Option

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for either a three-point shot or a post up. The post gets two looks in this action, one on each side of the court. The stagger screen happens on the back side once the ball is reversed. The post up combined with the stagger screen is a great option to keep the defense busy with two productive options. Box Swing Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for a three-point shot. I like the movement without this set to keep the defense busy. The only player that doesn't really move is 3. 2 wants to make a great cut off the stagger, setting it up with a great change of pace and change of direction. Of course, the screeners can look to slip if the opening is there. Video below. Ball Screen to Post Up Stagger Combo

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for a set to create action on both sides of the court. Let the defense choose which they are going to defend. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and vice versa.
