Basketball Play - Las Vegas Aces - Thumbs Up

Las Vegas Aces - Thumbs Up

Meaghan Volek 08/22/2019

In his first year as head coach of the WNBA's Las Vegas Aces, Bill Lambier was given a tough task: effectively blend the offensively post play-minded games of 2018 Rookie of the Year A'Ja Wilson and newly acquired All-Star Liz Cambage. With 18.6 seconds remaining in the second half and leading the Connecticut Sun by 1 point, Coach Lambier calls "Thumbs Up" as an end of time score. The play demonstrates an effective use of an offense that desires to optimize two talented post players. The play is a quick hitter that begins with a high ball screen and can lead to a low post lay-up, or a three-point opportunity. The play can be successful for end of time situations, and contains easy actions for a play call after a timeout. See More

Basketball Play - Iowa State Cyclones (W) - 1-4 High Iverson Post Iso

Iowa State Cyclones (W) - 1-4 High Iverson Post Iso

Aseem Rastogi 03/27/2019

With 33 seconds left in the third quarter of their Round of 32 matchup with Missouri State, Iowa State's Women's team ran this 1-4 high set to get a post isolation for 6'1" forward Madison Wise, taking advantage of a matchup with a smaller defender. The key to this was Wise's ability to change pace and speed coming across the top of the key; the timing allowed her to keep the defender on her back as she established position on the mid-post. Iowa State ran this to perfection late clock and ended up sending Wise to the FT line to cut the Missouri State lead to 4 going into the fourth. See More
