Basketball Play - Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Matt Hackenberg 11/23/2021

Any time we had a functional big man, we always have this in the playbook. The play is simple, and provides a great opportunity to isolate your big. The movement puts the defense in a tough spot because the back side help is removed, so if they front, we can throw over the top for a layup. If they play behind, we have a 1 on 1 opportunity on the block. The play gets right to the point of the set, which I like because it limits the number of ball handlers and decisions that need to be made. You can easilty hide weaker players in the 4 or the 2 spot in this play. Flat Rise Stagger Backdoor

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a baseline out of bounds play to set up a backdoor. Basketball Play - Box Double Corner Sprint BLOB

Box Double Corner Sprint BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 02/15/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a BLOB special out of a box alignment. The action sprints a shooter to the weak side corner with two screeners sreening in. I think this set can catch the defense off guard in a limited number of situations, but I lso like that there is a natural block isolation on the strong side to explore as well. Basketball Play - Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Fake DHO Hammer/Clear

Matt Hackenberg 04/11/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at play design for a point guard to drive the ball to an empty baseline. They can decide to drive as an isolation, or to skip the pass to the back side for a hammer set. Either way, the defense is misdirected with the fake hand off, and stretched side to side with the hammer action. This set is gold. Basketball Play - Box Elbow Fake Hand Off Elevator

Box Elbow Fake Hand Off Elevator

Matt Hackenberg 04/18/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play out of a box alignment for an iso driving lane. The set uses a elevator screen to occupy defenders in order to maintain space for an elbow drive. The timing is a little clunky, but a playmaking forward should be able to work with the elbow isolation this set creates. Basketball Play - Box Set: Stagger Zip Iverson Clear BLOB

Box Set: Stagger Zip Iverson Clear BLOB

Matt Hackenberg 05/13/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a BLOB out of a box alignment. This BLOB has a lot of movement before getting to the clear out. A stagger screen enters the ball, a zipper cut get the inbounder to the top of the key, and an Iverson cut gets the dynamic player to the isolation location.
