03/20/2015New Mexico State is staying in the game by being patient on offense and waiting for open shots. In this box set play, the guards start at the elbows with 2 screening down for 4. 5 and 3 then screen the screener with a double screen on the opposite block. Now the point guard has the option to hit 2 for a shot on the wing or pass to 4 at the pinch post. In the game, 4 got the ball and looked to drive to the basket after 1 cut through the lane. See More

Thru Duck In
03/20/2015In their NCAA matchup with Notre Dame, Northeastern displayed a wonderful motion offense with great movement, multiple ballscreens, and very active bigs. In this play, they set up their motion with a thru cut by the 1, and the result is a duck-in opportunity for the 5 man. Northeastern was able to draw a foul in the post here and put Notre Dame in foul trouble early. See More

Georgetown 4 Around 1
03/20/2015Georgetown ran this 4 around 1 set throughout their Round 2 matchup with Eastern Washington. The Hoyas used several different variations of the set utilizing the similar setup but unpredictable result. The action pictured is the base set. Dribble handoffs, double screens, flare screens, and back screens were all used out of this based set. Georgetown uses a 4 out 1 in look almost every possession and can run this set with interchangeable perimeter players. See More

Arkansas Razorback Half Court Offense (Basic)
03/20/2015Arkansas runs a very basic pass and screen away attack from their 4-out transition alignment. They keep things very basic in the half court as their primary goal is to shoot and score quickly with their Fastest 40 attack. Often the trailing post downscreens for wings sprinting to the baseline. When a player passes, he screens away or basket cuts. The Hogs stay in four-out and pass, screen away and/or cut. See More

NC State Pinch Post
03/20/2015NC State used this play early in the 1st half to get an open shot for Trevor Lacey. The play starts with an entry pass to the wing and a UCLA cut from 1 to the low post. Once 3 (Lacey) gets the ball at the top of the key, he has the option to pass to 1 for a shot or to pass to 4 flashing to the pinch post. If Lacey passes to 4, he loops around him at the elbow looking for a hand-off and a shot. See More

S.F. Austin High Flex/Dribble Handoff
03/20/2015Stephen F. Austin ran this early offense almost exclusively in the first half of their Round 2 matchup with Utah. Utah switched all screens which caused issues for the Lumberjacks but they were still able to get quality shots. This early offense uses flex concepts to clear one side of the floor for a dribble handoff. Stephen F. Austin utilizes a 5 that can attack the rim off the dribble to allow for multiple options out of the set. See More

VCU Ball Screen
03/19/2015VCU used this ball screen action late in their loss to Ohio State in Round 2 of the NCAA Tournament. VCU got the look they were looking for with 3 shooters spread around the perimeter but due to a bad pass and off balance shot they did not score. VCU gave Ohio State trouble the entire game using similar actions to get their guards paint touches. See More

Ohio State Horns-Flex
03/19/2015Ohio State ran this modified flex vs. VCU after setting it up with multiple possessions of their basic horns set. After using misdirection, the VCU defender is expecting a second misdirection screen but the 1 only uses one ball screen taking him to the wing. The help side defenders are also anticipating a guard attack or post dive to the paint. This action allows the ball handler and the cutter (flex) the entire side of the floor to work with. During this particular set the flex cut was covered and the ball was sent to the 2 coming off of a stagger screen. See More

VCU Early Offense
03/19/2015Early offense from the VCU Rams during 1st half action vs. Ohio State. VCU used the action successfully on 5+ occasions during the 1st half. This set has multiple options but was used by the Rams to occupy help side defenders during the ball screen action. Ohio State had issues defending this with VCU getting multiple paint touches and open 3's. Ohio State when zone partly as a result of this action. See More

Ohio State Horns Basic
03/19/2015Ohio State Horns Basic. The Buckeyes used this set early in Round 2 action vs. VCU. This simple horns action served as an entry in to more complex horns sets. The buckeyes scored multiple ways out of this in the 1st half. Easy looks for them included a 15 ft. pull up jump shot and an easy dump down to the roll man to avoid aggressive ball screen defense from the Rams. See More

Butler Point Flare
03/19/2015Butler used this play mid-way through the second half and got a good look on dribble penetration after the flare screen. The play starts with dribble entry to the right as 2 and 3 switch sides of the floor. The first scoring option is 3 in the corner for a shot. If that isn't open, 1 passes to 4 at the opposite elbow. From here, 4 can shoot if open or take his man to the basket. The third scoring option is to pass to 1 flaring to the wing. If the flare isn't open, the Butler guards put the ball on the floor and drive baseline. At the same time, 5 takes his defender out of the play by posting up under the basket. See More

Texas Elbow Quick Stagger
03/19/2015Texas used this play early in the second half to get an open shot for Holmes. Ridley was called for an illegal screen, but Texas should continue with actions similar to this and force Butler to chase Jonathan Holmes around screens. If Ridley holds the screen, it will be difficult for defenders to get around him. The play starts with an entry pass to 4 at the high post. 5 (Ridley) sets an up-screen for the point guard then both 1 and 5 set a staggered screen for Holmes in the corner. See More
