Basketball Play - Spurs Crunch SOB

Spurs Crunch SOB

Daniel Murphy 01/08/2014

Down 3 to the Knicks with 37 seconds left, Coach Pop drew this slob play up to get the hot hand, Belinelli, a great look at a 3 to tie the game. Although the concept of the play is great, screening a man into a screen, the Spurs really executed, setting up their cuts and low wide physical screens. See More

Basketball Play - Rhody Back

Rhody Back

Kyle Gilreath 01/07/2014

Rhody back is another simple yet very effective screen the screener post-up play to run after using a rhody cut. In the play below, have 1 delay his dribble to the wing until 2 almost reaches the point of the screen from 4. This will occupy X4 for a second before being hit with the backscreen. If X3 and X4 do a poor job communicating on the backscreen and overload to the post, 3 will be open after the pin down from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Terrapins 32 Hand-off Pop

Terrapins 32 Hand-off Pop

Dana Beszczynski 01/06/2014

Mark Turgeon is in his 3rd season with the Terps and led them to a 25 win season last year and an appearance in the NIT Semi-Finals This is a nice play which gives the shooter the option to read the defense and take advantage of what is given With Dez Wells, the Terps have an experienced player handling the ball with the ability to set-up the play as Coach Turgeon needs Layman is a lights out 3 pt shooter and in this play, he reads the defense jumping off the screen, quickly reacting, he cuts backdoor for a possible quick hit pass Wells makes the play work by coming back, receiving the hand-off and hitting the former Michigan State big man Smotrycz for an open 3 See More

Basketball Play - Lady Blue Devils 1-4 High

Lady Blue Devils 1-4 High

Dana Beszczynski 12/30/2013

The Lady Blue Devils of Duke have a veteran team back this year in the ACC led by Tricia Liston & Haley Peters. This play is a dribble entry action designed to get a quick post-up action for the 5 or get the best shooter free off the double staggered screen. Joanne P. McCallie is in her seventh season at Duke and has won three ACC Coach of the Year Awards during that time. Coach P has guided the Blue Devils to a 174-35 overall record, a 77-13 mark in ACC action and six NCAA Tournament selections, including a No. 1 seed in 2009 and four straight Elite Eight appearances. The Lady Blue Devils are currently 12- 1 overall their only loss coming to the UCONN Lady Huskies. See More

Basketball Play - Boise Shallow Cross Post

Boise Shallow Cross Post

Dana Beszczynski 12/13/2013

The Boise State Bronocs have beomce a well known team since Leon Rice arrived from Gonzaga. Since his arrival, the Broncos have established a dominant home court advantage, played near the top of the Mountain West Conference, and had their first at large selction to the NCAA Tournament. This is a nice post entry set run off a shallow dribble entry guard-to-guard out top. The FT line screen at the end can lead to a 3 pt shot or if the defense jumps the screen a slip action for the screener or a kick-out to either the corner or wing for an open shot. See More

Basketball Play - Creighton Stack High

Creighton Stack High

Dana Beszczynski 12/10/2013

This is a nice play run by the Creighton Bluejays designed at the beginning to get an open jumper off the FT line screen, but the action continues nicely and flows into a full shot clock set with multiple scoring options. The play ends with McDermott attacking the open side of the lane. If you haven't had a chance to watch Creighton play, they run some great half court offensive sets See More

Basketball Play - "Rhody"

"Rhody"

Kyle Gilreath 12/06/2013

Halfway through the 2nd half of their loss to UCONN, Florida head coach Billy Donovan called out this play to PG Scottie Wilbekin to get his Gators to run some offense for multiple looks. If you follow the Gators or Coach Donovan, you know he is one of the best at teaching and executing continuity offense. While they frequently run baseline runner/rhody actions, I love this new addition to his playbook. There are multiple scoring opportunities to attack any defensive adjustments in this action. Basketball Play - Bluejays Box

Bluejays Box

Dana Beszczynski 12/05/2013

The Creighton Bluejays run a variety of sets designed to get Doug McDermott open looks at the basket. McDermott returned to school this year instead of turning pro to help the Bluejays transition into their new conference, the Big East. Creighton Head Coach Greg McDermott is in his 4th season at Creighton with a record of 84-30. He came to the Bluejays after coaching at Iowa State. At Creighton, he has taken them to two consecutive NCAA Tournaments and before that to the Finals of the CBI Tournament. Doug McDermott was a 1st team All American in 2012, was Captain of the World University Games USA team this summer where he led the team in scoring, FG's, FT's, 3 pointers, FT %, and minutes played. Last year he set the Creighton single season and career record for points, FG's & 3 pt percentage. He is one of the top players in the NCAA. The Bluejays are currently 5-1 on the season. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Elevator

Horns Elevator

Kyle Gilreath 12/04/2013

Last night in their buzzer beating loss to the UCONN Huskies, the Florida Gators ran this elevator play to revive their offense in the 2nd half. This is a play that ESPN Analyst Seth Greenberg talked about during the broadcast, breaking down the elevator screen. I drew the 5-1 pick in grey because it does not have to be added but is a nice tweak. In the event you need a 2 in this situation, a quick slip from 5 is also a nice option after setting the screen. Basketball Play - UCLA Back Screen / Stagger Action

UCLA Back Screen / Stagger Action

Dana Beszczynski 12/03/2013

This is the opening play run by the UCLA Bruins in their match-up against Nevada the ther night. Steve Alford is in his first season at the head of the storied UCLA program. Alford left New Mexico where he built a winning program and made the Lobos a yearly team for discussion come NCAA Tourmament time. This play is a well designed action run out of Transition as the flashing post takes away thte weak side help on the backdoor action which opens the play. The stagger screen is set-up by the down screen at the elbow for the PG. With a good screening action, the Bruins were able to get an open look at the three right at the outset of the game. See More
