Basketball Play - Zone Set: Flare Overload

Zone Set: Flare Overload

Matt Hackenberg 03/16/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at set play against a zone. We all know overloading zones is a great idea. This set uses the flare screen to overload and then shows a nice screen up action for an easy bucket if timed well. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Ball Screen Overload

Zone Set: Ball Screen Overload

Matt Hackenberg 02/24/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a zone set to overload the defense. This play can really stress a zone by screening off a defender, engaging the gap of the next defender, and then leaving 1 defender to guard 2 players on the back side. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Step Up Overload

Zone Set: Step Up Overload

Matt Hackenberg 12/28/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. This set overloads the zone and makes the defense choose who they are going to cover. This set tries to make the defense "guard air" so that someone on offense is open because the defense doesn't shift to cover out of their zone. The point guard needs to be a great decision maker and read the defense properly to see who the open player will be. Video below. Basketball Play - Zone Set: Overload Tight Curl

Zone Set: Overload Tight Curl

Matt Hackenberg 12/25/2021

In this diagram and video clip we see a set to attack a zone. The concept of overloading the zone places more offensive players in an area than there are defenders. The cuter overloads the zone, shifting with the pass, and then an interior screen frees up the post player to catch the ball inside on the tight curl. Basketball Play - Zone Offense: Baseline Overload - "Kentucky"

Zone Offense: Baseline Overload - "Kentucky"

Matt Hackenberg 12/14/2021

We used this set to overload the baseline against a 3-2 or 2-3 zones. Our objective is to get the ball to the middle, but sometimes the corner three is there if the defense doesn't shift correctly. The timing of 5's seal is key to getting the curl into the middle. Once the ball goes to the middle, there are great opportunities to score or skip the ball. See video clip below. Basketball Play - Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Matt Hackenberg 11/23/2021

Any time we had a functional big man, we always have this in the playbook. The play is simple, and provides a great opportunity to isolate your big. The movement puts the defense in a tough spot because the back side help is removed, so if they front, we can throw over the top for a layup. If they play behind, we have a 1 on 1 opportunity on the block. The play gets right to the point of the set, which I like because it limits the number of ball handlers and decisions that need to be made. You can easilty hide weaker players in the 4 or the 2 spot in this play.
