Basketball Play - Hi-Lo Triple Stagger Pop

Hi-Lo Triple Stagger Pop

Al Baker 09/05/2013

The Spurs ran a set similar to this for Manu Ginobili in the 2013 NBA Finals. 3, 4, and 5 need to get out of the paint to set their screens if the first entry has any chance of being open, and 2 needs to bring his defender low enough that 3's defender has to pay attention to him--that will open up the best scoring opportunity that the action offers, which is 3 at the top of the key. Basketball Play - Miami Sprint Screen Flare

Miami Sprint Screen Flare

Kevin Bruinsma 07/19/2013

Miami really utilized what I refer to as a sprint screen as somebody screens the screener before he sets a ball screen to eliminate the high hedge or trap. Here the 2 runs off a screen to go set a ball screen and then flares off 3. 3 dives right to the rim. The Spurs had to defend the attacking ball handler, a roll to the basket, and a flare. See More

Basketball Play - Flare Slip

Flare Slip

Adam Spinella 07/17/2013

The San Antonio Spurs ran this play against the Minnesota Timberwolves three years ago in an end game situation. It was a simple yet effective play to get a layup, which worked because the defense had to respect Manu Ginobili coming off a flare screen. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Iverson Curl & Pop

Miami Iverson Curl & Pop

A late game set ran by the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals to free up #34 Ray Allen. He gets a screen from the 4 man, and then runs off a flare from the 5 looking for his jumper. The Spurs took away the flare allowing the pass to go to #1 Chris Bosh. On his catch then #34 Ray Allen went back door for a lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Down Screen Ball Screen

Miami Down Screen Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/12/2013

The Miami Heat ran this against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals to eliminate #21 Tim Duncan from hedging or trapping the ball screen. By having #6 Lebron James play the 3 he could handle the ball and free the 1 man #30 Norris Cole up to set a down screen for the 5 man #1 Chris Bosh. This is how #6 Lebron James got so many pull up jumpers as the Spurs post were slow getting up to the ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Deep Stagger

Miami Deep Stagger

Kevin Bruinsma 07/12/2013

With #6 Lebron James playing the 4 for the Miami Heat it allowed them to run a lot of stuff with the 4 handling the ball against the Spurs in the NBA Finals. They ran this deep stagger set to get the ball to #34 Ray Allen. Ray Allen does an outstanding job of getting his defender on his side or behind him, and burrying him deep. He runs off the stagger screen and scores off a wide open 12 footer. See More

Basketball Play - Miami BLOB Step Back

Miami BLOB Step Back

Kevin Bruinsma 07/11/2013

The Miami Heat realized the San Antonio Spurs were sitting on certain baseline out of bounds plays after playing them 7 straight times and decided to throw a different wrinkle at them. Instead of the 4 & 5 setting a double screen for 1 or 3, #1 Chris Bosh set a back screen for the 4 man who dove right to the rim. #1 Bosh's man protects against the cut allowing #1 Bosh to pop for a wide open jumper. Basketball Play - Miami Ball Screen Under

Miami Ball Screen Under

Kevin Bruinsma 07/11/2013

A very simple set that the Miami Heat ran to get two baskets against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals. By putting the 4 man in the corner they brought both defending bigs out of the paint. The 5 ball screens for the 1 who attacks to the 4's side. Kicking the ball to the 4 the 5 rolls hard to the rim. Most teams defend the rim with the low man away. Here that is the 3 man's defender. The 3 man goes to the baseline and slides to the ball side part of the floor and gets a short jumper outside the paint. The Heat ran this for #3 Dwayne Wade. See More
