Basketball Play - OPEN

OPEN

Dana Beszczynski 11/12/2013

This is a set which was used by the Duke Blue Devils in order to get the ball inside to their 5 man Duke really does a good job emphasizing spacing by using the 3 pt line and their shooters are in a perfect position for a kick-out pass to the weak side The diagonal back screen sets up a quick hit for 4 in the post and the action continues with 5 screening on the wing lifting 4 off the block to the wing for a possible inside pass to 5 on the throw back from 2 Coach K's sets really make the players "read" the game and take advantage of the what the defense gives them See More

Basketball Play - Side PNR Pop

Side PNR Pop

Dana Beszczynski 11/09/2013

Tbis is a set play run by the Pittsburg Panthers in their pre-season game against Slippery Rock. It is a low stack action utilizing the side PNR. What makes this play so effective is the slip action by the 4 man and the 5 coming right in behind setting a good ball screen. With 5 rolling to the basket, x4's defender is forced to help leaving 4 wide open in the corner for the throwback pass and subsequent open 3 pt shot. Jamie Dixon does a good job with his offensive sets and this play is an effective way to read the defense and take advantage of a help situation. See More

Basketball Play - Side Quick Twist

Side Quick Twist

Kyle Gilreath 11/09/2013

Last night I tweeted that Doc Rivers is one of the greatest ATO coaches of all time; this play is a big reason why. He drew up this play during a timeout late in the 4th quarter versus the Miami Heat. This play is so effective, yet very simple to run and provides multiple scoring opportunities. As 1 (CP3) received the dribble hand-off from 4 (Griffin), he has 3 main options: 1. Pull-up jumper or attack the rim 2. Drive and force X3 to help and kick out to 3 for a catch & shoot 3. Drive and look to kick out to 2 in the corner if X2 rotates to the lane. See More

Basketball Play - Twin Zipper Flare

Twin Zipper Flare

Adam Spinella 11/08/2013

The Portland TrailBlazers ran Twin Zipper Flare last season, and again this season, to get their shooters open looks off a flare screen. The action serves as a misdirection by swinging to one side of the floor, then reversing back to the original side once it empties. See More

Basketball Play - Zip 54 Rub

Zip 54 Rub

Adam Spinella 11/07/2013

This play was run by the New Orleans Pelicans on their opening night against the Indiana Pacers. Zip 54 Rub is designed to get Anthony Davis an open wing jumper, using his athleticism and comfort on the perimeter to throw off his post defender. Most post defenders aren't used to going over handoffs or screens, and this pattern that Davis runs forces them to do so. See More

Basketball Play - Webster Groves Paint Game

Webster Groves Paint Game

Drew Hanlen 11/06/2013

This is a great competitive drill that works on defensive closeouts, catching drives, guarding the ball, getting chest stops, keeping the ball out of the paint, attacking closeouts and driving into the paint under control. I got this drill from my high school coach, Jay Blossom. See More

Pop Back StS

Adam Spinella 11/05/2013

This play was run by the New Orleans Pelicans on their home opener against the Indiana Pacers, trying to get the ball to Eric Gordon off a downscreen. The Pelicans have an interesting offense, trying to stretch the floor with their face-up big men, which are plentiful on their roster. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA Double

UCLA Double

Kyle Gilreath 11/04/2013

This play the Chicago Bulls ran over the weekend versus the 76ers is a very popular one run in the NBA by multiple teams. Frame 1 is the action that the Bulls ran. However, if you have a shooting 4 or decide to UCLA screen with a big instead of a guard, Frame 2 (OPTION 2) is a great tweak to get another scoring option for one of your shooters. Furthermore, with an explosive point guard like Rose, you can also choose to dribble 2 up and have 2 Hawk cut off the post to get your point guard using the side pick & roll instead. See More
