Basketball Play - Charges on the drive

Charges on the drive

Tom Kelsey 07/30/2013

These are effective defensive drills to be used in pre-practice or as warmup drills. Got the idea from the New Orleans Saints a couple of years ago. They tried to replicate situations that would occur with their defense. Situations would be worked on at the beginning of practice to get the team in the mindset of thinking defense. You can use different aspects of your defense or schemes to you need to work on for an upcoming opponent. Take a 10 minute segment to start practice each day or a couple days a week and you will notice improved intensity on the defensive end of the floor. See More

Basketball Play - 3 Pop

3 Pop

Kyle Gilreath 07/22/2013

This is an excellent quick hitter the Sacramento Kings ran during the 2013 NBA Las Vegas Summer League. One of the options not drawn is for 4 to slip hard to the rim if X4 jumps out hard to help on the flare screen for 3. The shot for 2 is more likely in high school or college because X2 is allowed to sit in the lane and help, whereas in the NBA they can only sit there for 2.9 seconds. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs SLOB Bearcat

Spurs SLOB Bearcat

Kevin Bruinsma 07/05/2013

A common San Antonio Spurs SLOB which didn't translate into many points against the Miami Heat. But the amount they ran it made me think they must have had good success with this action during the season. They utilized these back screens to get #21 Tim Duncan a post iso. The only hoop they got on this action against Miami was a #2 Kawhi Leonard 3 from the top of the key. See More

Basketball Play - Heat 14 Step Up

Heat 14 Step Up

Daniel Murphy 06/25/2013

The Heat ran this at 8:52 Q3 in their game 5 loss to the Spurs. It's a relatively simple play that involves a dribble hand off and step up screen. Having James roll into the lane pulls the defense in and leaves Wade open for a mid range jump shot. See More

Basketball Play - Calvin-Hi/Lo

Calvin-Hi/Lo

Kyle Brown 01/03/2013

An action I saw on film and really liked. Simple but effective the 4 man cuts hard to the block and has to sell to his defender that he is trying to get the pass from 1. Then the hi/lo look will be their. The thing I like about this set is that you could run it for any of the 4 perimeter guys to take advantage of a mismatch in the post. See More

Basketball Play - Wichita State: 1-4 Punch Rip

Wichita State: 1-4 Punch Rip

James Ponchak 03/22/2015

Wichita State ran this play against Indiana for their first basket in the NCAA tournament. Ron Baker ripped the ball middle and drove left for the finish, but he also had Darius Carter posting up on the block as an option. If you are looking for a postup, having VanVleet screen for Carter would create a mismatch if they switch the screen. VanVleet could then cut off a screen from Cotton to the wing to still create a lane for Baker to rip and drive left. 23 - Fred VanVleet 31 - Ron Baker 3 - Evan Wessel 12 - Darius Carter 32 - Tekele Cotton See More

Basketball Play - Pacer Weave Duck In

Pacer Weave Duck In

Kevin Bruinsma 06/19/2013

The Pacers ran this set in a late clock situation right before the end of the First Half in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals vs the Miami Heat. #21 David West with a textbook example of ducking in, sealing a defender. This play didn't result in a basket as West missed an open lay-up. But the job he does of going along the baseline, then coming back towards the rim sealing they switching defender was tremendous.
