Basketball Play - Grinnell Stagger Triple

Grinnell Stagger Triple

Wes Kosel 06/27/2015

In the stagger option of this play, 4 stays back as the trailer as 2 runs across the floor off of a staggered-screen from 3 and 5. 1 looks to pass to 2 for a 3-point shot. If 4 gets ahead of the ball, he can join in on the screen to form a triple staggered-screen for the shooter. See More

Basketball Play - Butler Horns Flex Action

Butler Horns Flex Action

Wes Kosel 03/19/2015

Butler used this play in the first half of the game against Texas to get an open shot in the post. The play starts in the horns set with an entry pass to the elbow. Butler fakes the staggered screen in the corner and has 2 back-cut to the basket. If 2 isn't open on the cut, he continues across the lane to set a flex screen for 3. Butler got a good look here and threw it directly in to 3 in the post. If 3 isn't open, 1 can pass to 2 cutting off of the down screen from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv Horns 1

Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv Horns 1

Wes Kosel 06/10/2015

1 dribbles to the left wing as 4 moves out and 5 steps to the top of the key. 5 screens for 1 as 3 flashes to the ball-side low post. If 1 can't get a shot and 3 isn't open, the next look is for 1 to pass to 5 flaring to the wing. If the flare isn't there, 1 passes to 2 then makes a shallow cut to the corner. 5 screens for 3 who pops out to the wing. 4 sprints across the lane to screen for 2. 2 drives middle as 4 rolls to the basket. Basketball Play - Oklahoma State Flex Slide Hand-Off

Oklahoma State Flex Slide Hand-Off

Wes Kosel 03/20/2015

Oklahoma State used this flex option early when Oregon was playing man to man defense. The Cowboys didn't get a good shot since they gave up on the play after the hand-off (they did not get to the screen for Forte at the end). However, this is a good play to get Forte (2) open for a shot. The play starts in traditional flex with the ball moving from right to left. Instead of 1 setting the down-screen for the flex screener inside, 1 slides to the right wing as 4 sets the down-screen. Once 5 gets the ball at the top of the key, he dribbles right to give 1 the ball on a dribble hand-off. At the same time, Forte sets a cross-screen in the post then cuts to the wing off of a down-screen from 5. This play is difficult to guard because 5's defender has to worry about the hand-off and then react to Forte cutting to the wing. See More

Basketball Play - MAVERICKS - GUARD DRIVE

MAVERICKS - GUARD DRIVE

Jens Hakanowitz 01/03/2015

The Dallas Mavericks use this play to create a strong hand drive for their scoring guards Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo. In addition, the set provides options for Tyson Chandler rolling to the basket and Dirk Nowitzki popping behind the arc. If one of the weak side guards helps on the drive, than the Mavericks got shooters ready spotting up behind the 3point line. See More

Basketball Play - Heat Elbow Rip

Heat Elbow Rip

Daniel Murphy 06/29/2013

Heat ran this at 7:45 of Q3 in game 7. When Chalmers clears to the corner he first runs at Bosh faking the screen. As this is happening Miller is sprinting into the back screen. The Spurs switched the pick and pop. Parker was guarding Miller and on the switch Parker guarded Wade and Manu guarded Miller. When Miller set the ball screen it was in the middle, but so low the screen was at the nail of the FT line. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs SLOB High Post Follow

Spurs SLOB High Post Follow

Kevin Bruinsma 07/05/2013

My favorite San Antonio Spurs SLOB and the one that the Miami Heat had the most difficulty defending in the NBA Finals. #9 Tony Parker did a great job of curling right around #21 Tim Duncan after passing him the ball for lay-ups. Duncan's defender was scared to help too much to give up an elbow jumper or drive, it led to two #9 Tony Parker lay-ups. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Down

Elbow Down

Stephen Gentry 09/17/2012

Elbow Down is a good multi-action, long play that really forces the defense to react, move and cover several threats. I’m a big fan of long plays – if your players are cerebral enough to execute them they can be extremely difficult for the defense to cover and allows for your offense to flow. Too often when I watch games I see a team running a short set with a singular scoring action only to have it snuffed out and see the offense stop and stand. I also like long plays with multiple scoring options because it makes all 5 players feel involved in the action and forces them to be more active participants. In Elbow Down literally all 5 players have a realistic shot of scoring. See More
