Basketball Play - Duke Horns Cross Screen

Duke Horns Cross Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 04/21/2015

In the first Final Four game between Michigan State and Duke the Blue Devils ran this set successfully four straight times for baskets. The action was very simple as the horns set had a big cross screen right into a ball screen. Michigan State couldn’t guard this set in the first half and it led to Duke building a lead they would never lose. See More

Basketball Play - YSU Horns Options

YSU Horns Options

Kevin Bruinsma 02/03/2015

When playing Cleveland State you have to find ways to counter their pressue and make it as difficult as possible for them to successfully trap you. They trap all ball screens so running a horns set is one of the most difficult ways for them to do that successfully. Trailing at the half at our place we started the second half running three different variations of horns on our first three possessions. We scored on all 3. With them trapping the ball screen it makes it crucial the opposite post defender sinks in the hole or there is a strong blitz from the corner/wing defender. You can see in the first clip how even though our PG #11 DJ Cole got trapped as soon as he got the ball to our 4 man #4 Shawn Amiker he had a clear driving lane to the basket. The second clip shows us going off the 4 man, their 5 didn't sink far enough and we got an And 1. The third & final clip shows a pass entry that brought us to a back screen and down screen action on the side of the floor. With them pressuring the ball our 5 man #20 Bobby Hain created space off the bounce and hit the slipping 4 man for a lay-up. See More

Gregg Popovich San Antonio Spurs: 2-1-2 Scissor Option 1

Scott Peterman 03/01/2015

Even with the San Antonio Spurs being on a four game losing streak and the sky appears to be falling in the Alamo City, Gregg Popovich still has five championships and won over 1,000 NBA games. What is the secret to the San Antonio Spurs and Gregg Popovich? I think that Gregg Popovich has instilled a culture with the San Antonio Spurs and it's produced a dynasty. Basketball Play - Carolina Flare

Carolina Flare

Rich Czeslawski 06/06/2012

Carolina Flare begins the same way as Carolina. 1 reverses to 4 who reverses to 3. 5 posts up above the ball side block. 2 sets up his backpick by moving to the weak block. 4 cuts off 2's backpick to the weak block. If he is open, 3 should "shoot" him the ball. If we need the three, 3 will not pass the ball. On 3's dribble to the top of the key, 5 will come up and set a flare screen for 2. 2 reads his defender and flares to the wing for the three point shot. 3 passes to 2 for the three point shot. 5 can slip to the basket for a layup if x5 helps on 2. Or 5 can screen away for the 4 to create our high - low motion action. See More

Basketball Play - C of C Box Diagonal

C of C Box Diagonal

Kyle Brown 10/02/2012

A play from Bobby Cremins and the College of Charleston. This set play has a lot of options to it: 1) 4 posting up. 2) 2 coming off stagger to the top, and 3) 3 coming off a baseline screen. The play could finish in a lot of different ways, but easiest would be a high/low look for the 4 posting off the baseline screen. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB - Slice Screen Rescreen/Counter Play

SLOB - Slice Screen Rescreen/Counter Play

Basketball HQ 09/19/2012

As soon as the ball is inbounded you want to get right into the play. Your first look is for the cutter coming off of the re screen but don’t get so focused on him that you miss the big man who set the screen or the weak side screening action. The cutter needs to sell his slice cut to get his defender to drop into the paint. After the big man sets the rescreen he needs to open up to the ball and look to get a catch. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More
