Basketball Play - BUCKS - CORNER INBOUND

BUCKS - CORNER INBOUND

Jens Hakanowitz 01/05/2015

Inbounding the ball from the deep corner wasn't a handicap for Jason Kidds Bucks on January 4th 2015. They turned the inbounder spot into a useful advantage. With 9 seconds on the shot clock, Milwaukee was looking to get 3 point opportunity for Khris Middleton (40% career 3point shooter). See More

Play of the Day 09-28-2011: Floppy Iso Flex

Michael Bowden 09/28/2011

One of the great perks of working here at Fast Model is that we get to speak on a regular basis with the best and brightest coaching minds in the NBA and NCAA. Today, we asked our good friend, Mike Bowden, from the University of Maryland Women's Basketball coaching staff, for a play directly from their FastDraw playbook. The Maryland women's program is one of the most accomplished programs in the country, and Head Coach, Brenda Frese, has built a program based on "More than just Basketball". The Maryland Women hold Family, Academics, Community, Travel, and the commitment to become Champions in everything they do, as sacred ideas that factor into their success both on and off the court. Just a few of the on-court successes they have achieved recently include: 2006 National Championship 4 Final Four Appearances 11 Elite Eight Appearances 12 Sweet Sixteens 9 ACC Championships (ACC Record) 23 National Tournament Appearances Today's FastDraw Play of the Day uses several actions to isolate your star player, and gives that player freedom to create a 1-on-1 shot, or find a teammate open for a shot based on their movement away from the ball. Basketball Play - Chip

Chip

Randy Brown 01/16/2014

This play creates an open three for a good shooting post player. The screen-the-screener action occupies 4's defender, allowing 2 to set a good screen on him to free 4. 4 must be ready to catch and shoot quickly. Secondary action is a quick 2-5 cross screen for a post feed. See More

Basketball Play - Piston Box Side

Piston Box Side

Randy Brown 01/15/2014

Box set with 1 dribbling to left wing. 3 and 2 down screen for 4 as 5 posts up. Ball is reversed to 4 and he pass fakes to the right wing and returns the ball to 1 on the left wing. On the catch 5 sets on ball screen for 1 for ball penetration to the paint. On weak side 3 uses down screens by 2 and 4 to separate for shot. See More

Basketball Play - Lancer Post Fist

Lancer Post Fist

Adam Spinella 07/30/2013

Teams with post players that need to get their touches have to be creative about how they get the ball into the post. In Post Fist, the action starts on one side, completely clears the area, and then allows the post player to enter the recently vacated space and post up. See More

Basketball Play - Grizzly

Grizzly

John Leonzo 06/20/2013

Here is a quick hitter that was run by Lionel Hollins and the Memphis Grizzlies this past NBA season. The wide pin down to dribble hand off action is very hard to guard and can either get you a good look at a basket or create a mismatch opportunity if the defense elects to switch. See More

Basketball Play - Pacer Late Clock SLOB

Pacer Late Clock SLOB

Kevin Bruinsma 06/18/2013

Although this set didn't result in a basket or even free throws it forced a great defensive effort from the Miami Heat to stop the Pacers from scoring. This action puts a lot of pressure on the defense as they have to guard a mis direction cut by the 2, then the stagger iverson action for #24 Paul George who everyone thinks the play is going to, a flare screen for #21 David West, and then finally a slip/dive to the rim by #55 Roy Hibbert. This set had some fantastic actions. See More

Basketball Play - Fred Hoiberg Set Play; 3 Guard Screen the Screener

Fred Hoiberg Set Play; 3 Guard Screen the Screener

Scott Peterman 02/21/2015

Iowa State Head Coach Fred Hoiberg likes to use plays that create multiple scoring options at the rim and from the 3-point range. This 3 Guard Screen the Screener play is exactly what I am talking about. Fred Hoiberg has always stressed proper spacing as a key component for offensive efficiency. Since he took over the reins of the Iowa State program in 2010-2011. ISU's offense have evolved around outstanding shooters who space the floor and make the extra pass to find the open man. Basketball Play - Bill Self Kansas University Set Play: 1 Drive or Kick

Bill Self Kansas University Set Play: 1 Drive or Kick

Scott Peterman 02/27/2015

Kansas coach Bill Self has a simple formula for evaluating his team’s three-point shooting numbers: Thirty percent from three equals good offense. The 30 percent isn't the percentage of made baskets, but it's the percentage of shots taken from the arc. If 30 percent of KU’s shots are coming from behind the arc, that’s a number that Self can live with. Coach Bill Self believes in playing inside then out. Coach Bill Self doesn't believe in launching from deep even if he is having trouble finding consistent post scoring this season. This basketball play takes advantage of his guards getting to the basket and finding the post on the roll. This season, the Jayhawks are hitting 39.6 percent from three-point range, which ranks 19th in the country. But after 22 games, the Jayhawks have taken just 29.4 percent of their shots from behind the three-point line. That ranks 289th in the country and is just slightly more than last season (28.6 percent). In conference play, the number has increased only marginally, to 29.9 percent, which aligns close to the 30 percent mark that Bill Self feels comfortable with. Philosophies on outside shooting vary from team to team, and coach to coach. No. 1 Kentucky, for example, takes three-pointers on 30 percent of its field-goal attempts, while Wisconsin, the nation’s most efficient offense, hoists threes on 36 percent of its shots. Basketball Play - #1 Up

#1 Up

Tom Kelsey 04/15/2014

Utliize if you have a Point Guard that can post up. Can get a quick basket if offensive player will set his man up on the screen. Good set to get a shooter open off a double screen. Also good to use against teams that switch because both post men can slip the screen. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Swing Ball Screen

Spurs Swing Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/02/2013

I really loved this action used by the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. They look for the quick curl for the 2 man, get a shuffle screen, then a stagger, then a ball screen. This play is packed with multiple actions for the defense to guard and puts a lot of pressure on the man defending the 5 man. See More

Pacer Zipper Slip

Kevin Bruinsma 06/15/2013

The Indiana Pacers love the zipper action to free up #24 Paul George here after he catches the ball #55 Roy Hibbert comes to set the ball screen. They run multiple actions and ball screen spacing out of this zipper set. Here Indiana throws a different look at the Miami Heat and #55 Hibbert slips the screen right to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Louisville- Option For Shooters

Louisville- Option For Shooters

Jake Presutti 03/20/2014

Louisville ran this set in the AAC Championship game vs Connecticut. The first option out of transition is to get a quick down screen to get Luke Hancock a quick 3pt shot. If that is not open, Louisville will then look for a flare screen for their point guard. The last screen is for Russ Smith to come off a down screen on the opposite side of the court. If Smith does not have a play he will look for Montrezl Harrell in the post. This set gives Louisville options on the offensive end and allows their playmakers freedom on offense. See More
