Basketball Play - Green Bay Roll & Replace Backdoor

Green Bay Roll & Replace Backdoor

Kevin Bruinsma 01/29/2015

Before you break down this play's design you need to understand the motive and validity of the action. Green Bay's best player is #24 Keifer Sykes. Most likely #24 Sykes will be playing in the pros next year after he wins Horizon League Player of the Year. Because of his abilities he is always over played in attempt to deny him the ball, especially a team like Detroit that thrives on pressure and getting into passing lanes. Because of that this play was so effective. By placing the 5 man on the perimeter they removed Detroit's big from the back side help, and by rolling and replacing they delayed the help side. I also like how they used their three man #4 Fouse as the passer knowing he needed to dribble and make a good pass to #24 Sykes. See More

Basketball Play - Miami Iverson Sprint Screen

Miami Iverson Sprint Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/16/2013

The Miami Heat loved to enter their offense with a dribble handoff into an iverson cut. This set ends with the 2 who set a screen in the iverson cut, cracking back to set a ball screen for #6 Lebron James to an open side of the floor. Using the screen to get deep then the 4 who set the last screen in the iverson cut comes and sets a ball screen at a really deep angle. Tough to defend. See More

Basketball Play - Transition Build Up

Transition Build Up

FastModel Sports 03/02/2015

Practicing transition offense and defense by nature creates a conditioning drill, but combining that with a 20 second shot clock (which can be lowered as your team gets in better shape and more comfortable with this drill) produces major back and forth action and gets your team running while also working on fundamental skills…and it’s fun too! Basketball Play - Wing Square-Ups

Wing Square-Ups

FastModel Sports 01/27/2015

The purpose of this drill is to practice squaring up hard on the wing; in other words, getting your shoulders turned all the way towards the basket and forcing your defender to move backwards in order to avoid committing a foul. Players pass the ball to a coach at the top of the 3-point line, take a step towards the basket, and then square-up to the basket as they receive the ball back from the coach. Once receiving the ball, they swing the ball aggressively over the tops of their shoes (low to the ground) and attack the basket along the baseline. Lines alternate driving along the baseline until the team makes 30 lay-ups, and then both lines switch to attacking middle for 30 made lay-ups. Players can switch up the type of lay-up they do to add variety to the drill. This is a drill for the whole team, not just your wing players. See More

Basketball Play - Trailblazers Middle P&R

Trailblazers Middle P&R

Jeff Dow 02/10/2014

This is an on/ball set play the Portland Trailblazers ran vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves in their January 25, 2014 game. It takes advantage of Batum's passing skills coming off of on/balls. It also expoited the T-Wolves tendency to double Aldridge in the post while utilizing his interior passing skills to get an easy lay-up for Lopez. See More

Basketball Play - "C"

"C"

Kyle Gilreath 09/26/2013

This is another action I watched last night while watching the 1987 NBA Finals between the Lakers and Celtics. Pat Riley called out "C" as the Lakers jogged up court. 3 (Magic Johnson) came off a baseline rub that turned into a staggered pick & roll. See More

Basketball Play - Shallow Cut into Double Flare

Shallow Cut into Double Flare

Kyle Brown 10/18/2012

A set that has a lot of options to score for the 3. 1st action is the double flare at the elbow. 1 man can slip this screen (guard to guard action) for an easy score. 5 really has to headhunt on this flare. The play can finish many different ways with ballscreen actions. If your 3 can create off a ballscreen then the throwback to 5 and the pass and follow could be really good. See More

Basketball Play - Slice Read Option

Slice Read Option

Adam Spinella 07/23/2013

Last season in Cleveland, Byron Scott ran this play so he could get Kyrie coming off a re-screen action and to let Dion Waiters have the chance to work in isolation at the top of the key. When the Cavs would go small and put Wayne Ellington at the 3, defenses would have a tough time chasing their shooters off the perimeter and wrestling in the post against Thompson and Speights. Basketball Play - Atlanta Cross Double

Atlanta Cross Double

Daniel Murphy 06/28/2013

The Atlanta Dream ran this set a couple times in their 78-77 win over the CT Sun 6/23. After the cross screen 2 would come off a double or elevator. You can move your personel around to get them the ball in different spots by starting with a small on big cross screen. See More

Basketball Play - Florida Gators Horns Ball-Screen

Florida Gators Horns Ball-Screen

Wes Kosel 04/29/2015

1 dribble up the floor and passes to 3 cutting up off of a screen from 4. Once 1 has passed the ball, he flares off of 5's screen at the elbow. If 1 isn't open, 3 dribbles left off of a high ball-screen from 5. 5 rolls and 4 replaces 5. If x5 plays the roll, 3 can pass to 4 who looks inside to 5 or 4 can pass to 2 for the post pass inside to 5. See More

Basketball Play - Cincinnati Elevator to Stagger Play

Cincinnati Elevator to Stagger Play

David Taylor 03/24/2015

Cincinnati ran this play in the second round of the NCAA tournament against Purdue. It should be emphasized how open 1 will get off of 5's back screen, if 1 cuts hard and 5 looks for him - if players do a poor job setting up this action, it will make it that much harder to effectively get open off the elevator screen (defender will top-lock elevator cut). It is vitally important that after 4 helps set stagger screen with 5, that he seals aggressively... If 4 does a good job sealing, he will at the very least get a high-low catch from 5. See More

Basketball Play - 54 Gap Double

54 Gap Double

Kyle Gilreath 02/12/2015

The UCONN Huskies ran this play in the 2014 National Championship game. As 1 came off the initial pick, X2 picked him forcing the pass to 2. Immediately 4 picks X2 and attacks X4 for a simple 2-man game on the wing. With 5 rolling after the initial pick X5 should be somewhat occupied in the event 2 turns the corner and attacks. Basketball Play - Pin Down Post Iso Play

Pin Down Post Iso Play

Basketball HQ 09/15/2012

This play can be run for a big man or a guard but the reason you would run it is to take advantage of a size match up. If you feel that a player can take his defender in the post let him set the pin down screen and then post up. The deeper you set the pin down screen the closer your post up will be. Don’t make the post man wait on the pass, hit him as soon as he is open. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Point Choice

Point Choice

Randy Brown 05/07/2014

Great set play for a scoring point guard. After entry pass, 1 cuts to the basket as ball is reversed to 5. 2-4 set up double on right side and 3 provides single screen on left side. Point has choice of cut. If 1 comes out on right side, 4 has post up opportunity also. See More

Basketball Play - Warriors Horns Options

Warriors Horns Options

Wes Kosel 04/20/2015

Here are 4 Horns Options from Golden State. In option 1, Curry attacks the high staggered ball-screen from left to right. As Curry dribbles right, Bogut and Lee move down to the corner to screen for Thompson. If Curry doesn't have a shot, he passes ot Thompson at the top of the key. In option 2, Curry splits the high staggered ball-screen at the top of the key for a drive or shot. In option 3, Curry drives into the lane looking to pass to Bogut rolling to the corner or he can kick it out for a 3-point shot. In option 4, Igoudala moves to the right side of the floor. As Curry drives off of the screen, Bogut rolls and Lee pops. If Lee gets the ball, he looks to drive or pass out for a shot. See More
