Phase A teaching drill to introduce the wing ball screen and its options as a means to create offensive advantages.
Drill Setup
All phases of the drill begin from this setup:
Player 1 starts with a ball on the right wing
Player 5 starts with a ball just above Player 1 on the right wing
Coach stars in slot (no ball)
Player 2 starts with a ball in the left slot
Player 3 starts under basket
1 passes the 3, 5 passes to 1, 2 passes to coach in sequence.
5 follows pass to 1 with a ball screen
All three players (1, 2 and 5) get a shot on every read
Read - Guard attacks basket and scores
1 comes off the ball screen and gets all the way to the rim and scores
3 hits 5 rolling for a jump shot, layup
Coach hits 2 on the loop for shot
Read - Guard "finds a pocket" and pulls up for jumpshot in logo area
1 comes off the ball screen and pulls up in the lane
3 hits 5 rolling for a jump shot
Coach hits 2 on the loop for shot
Read - Guard rejects and attacks the basket on baseline drive
1 rejects the ball screen and drives baseline
3 hits 5 filling behind the drive
Coach hits 2 on the loop for shot
Read - Defense gives hard hedge
1 retreat dribbles versus hard hedge and then attacks
3 hits 5 slipping for a jump shot, layup
Coach hits 2 on the loop for shot
Read - Guard hits big man on the roll
1 hits 5 on the roll
Coach hits 2 on the loop
1 sprints to opposite corner for fade pass and shot from 3
Read - Defense switches the ball screen
1 pulls defender away from basket as 5 buries their man in the post
1 hits 5 in the post
Coach hits 2 on the loop
1 gets crack back from 3
Read - Defense traps ball screen
1 takes the trap away from 5
1 hits 5 for jump shot (sprint to space and range)
Coach hits 2 on the loop
3 hits 1 on the fade to corner
Read - Guard draws help defense
1 gets in the lane, draws the defense and hits 2 on the loop
Coach hits 5 rolling off the ball screen
3 hits 1 on the corner fade
