Basketball Play - Jump Stop Passing & Finishing

Jump Stop Passing & Finishing

Matt Hackenberg 04/08/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to use in place of traditional layup lines. I hate when players get too casual and try to be too fancy in laup lines. Implementing this structure keeps more focus during this drill that every team in the world runs. Basketball Play - Euro Stride Finishing Drill

Euro Stride Finishing Drill

Matt Hackenberg 02/16/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on getting your players to take longer strides while playing basketball. I believe longer strides allow players to be faster and cover more ground. I think drills like this help unlock a player's athleticism. This drill is a sister drill to Stride Out Lay Ups which adds lateral movement to the striding. Basketball Play - Jump Stop Finishing Drill

Jump Stop Finishing Drill

Matt Hackenberg 01/21/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on finishing off of a jump stop. We preach to our players about being on balance and using jump stops, so we want to show them solutions for how to create space and shots off the two foot stop. Basketball Play - Warrior Finishing Drill: Forwards

Warrior Finishing Drill: Forwards

Irvin Jerry 06/13/2019

This is a continuous shooting drill that allows our forwards to work on games shots and adds a conditioning element. Once completed on the right side immediately start on left. We like to have each player go through this drill two times then switch shooter. You can add time to increase intensity. We used the video below as inspiration to tailor the drill to our personnel. Basketball Play - Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Player Development: 1v1 Block Finishing

Tony Miller 07/06/2018

This multipurpose drill works on both defense and offense. Players must react quickly when the coach chooses a player to throw the ball to on either block. The player on offense must score at the basket against immediate pressure. The player on defense attempts to prevent a basket without fouling. Make the drill competitive by keeping score (defensive stops, made baskets, etc.). Click for more #PlayerDevelopmentWeek content! See More

Basketball Play - Dribble Drive Motion: Finishing at the Rim

Dribble Drive Motion: Finishing at the Rim

Michael Lynch 07/04/2018

As part of #PlayerDevelopmentWeek I am putting together a series of drill progressions that we use in order to develop skills to fit our Dribble Drive Motion Offense. In this second installment we are looking at "Finishing at the Rim". What we are hoping for our players is that they can finish at the rim from multiple angles, and with a variety of finishes. The "1/0 Technique" Drill below makes our players finish from the three most common angles within our offense; 1) The Slot Drive, 2) The Wing Drive from the Corner, and the 3) Baseline Drive. We want our players to feel comfortable finishing with at least 1-2 different techniques from both their strong hand and their weak hand. So over the course of the season we will emphasize these finishes; 1) Extended Arm, 2) Scoop, 3) Inside Hand, 4) Stride Stop, 5) Jump Stops, & 6) Reverse Pivots. The "1/1 and 2/2 Russian" Drills are good once we have moved beyond the Phase A portion of finishing. Those two drills are not only fun for the players, but represent very common finishing opportunities within our offense, 1) The Slot Drive with an advantage and 2) The Drop Pass.
