About This Play/Drill

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a long form action used as a SLOB. This play has so many options. You can look to score off the inbounds with a few options, or run the play all the way through and see what else shows up. The Carolina back screen and the flex are both hard actions to defend, so cramming them into one play will put a lot of stress on the defense. Check out this 4 Out Carolina Flex action as well.

  • Screen to the corner for a shot or a post feed. Direct entry to 5 an option. On an entry to 1, 3 sprints side to side. If the ball is entered "down" to the 5 or 2, 4 will cut to the rim in a blind pig-like action

  • Carolina Back Screen Option: The ball is double reversed 1-4-3. 3 really needs to get moving to make the timing work. 5 slides across the and has a post iso. While 5 is working for position, 2 sprints across the court to set a back screen for 4. This back screen lob is open a lot. 2, usually a shooter, is often open popping after back screening.

  • Flex Option: The ball is double reversed and we are in the flex - Back screen, down screen continuity.

  • First look: Enter to the corner. This should be a shooter. If he's open on the down screen, shoo it. If he's covered, look inside for the post up. If the the ball is thrown inside, our 4 is diving to the rim.

  • Second Look: We can throw the direct entry to 5 down screening and sealing. If he gets the ball, he's looking to score, and 4 is diving to the basket like a blind pig backdoor.
