About This Play/Drill

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a drill to work on post sealing and footwork. This drill uses guided defense to work on our single pivots series. These pivots are simple and effective once mastered.

  • Basketball Play - Post Position & Score Drill (Single Pivots)

Offense starts at the top of the key and defense starts at the free throw line. Coach passes from the slot. Players rotate from offense to defense. The offensive player sprints to make contact and take space from the defender and will use the leg whip technique to gain position for a post up.

After the receiving the pass the offensive player will make the designated single pivot move (hook, up and under, 1 dribble drop step, running hook, etc). . Defense is guided and should fight for position with lower body and contest but simply wall up with upper body.

POPs:

-Seal low and wide

-Lock out top foot of defender on seal

-Stay down against offensive fakes
