The Indiana Pacers ran this set a few times in the ECF against the Miami Heat. They utilized mis-direction against an aggressive Heat defense to keep Miami on their toes. Following the UCLA screen and flex screen the 1 man then turns right back around to get the 3, letting #24 Paul George run off a stagger screen. This brought the 1 off a down screen and gave him the ball back in a better scoring area for him to create. See More

Memphis ran this play at the 5:21 mark of their game three loss to the Spurs. This layup by Randolph put Memphis up by 11. The Spurs made two consecuctive defensive errors on this play. First, Randolph was doubled in the post leaving Gasol wide open at the free throw line. After Pondexter ball faked to the free throw line both Spurs guarding Randolph ran to the free throw line. Z-Bo was left unguarded on the block for the layup. Regardless of the Spurs defensive lapses, this is a good set involving screening to get the ball into the post. See More

I figured with so many people doing one set and one drawing, I wanted to offer something different. After reviewing all four games of the Western Conference Finals between the Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs I looked at actions that were successful and one's that didn't have quite as much success. I started with the Memphis Grizzlies. The play diagrams below are drawn for multiple plays with the play name titled directly on top of the court frame. Here is a zipper set that is run to get the ball in the hands of your best decision maker (1 in this play) and gives you plenty of scoring oppertunities. The spurs run a variation of this play with much success by putting Parker at the 1. Ginobli at the 2 (who can get a 3 on the extra pass from 3) and Danny Green at the 3. The skills of these players puts a lot of stress on the defense and makes this quick hitter hard to guard. See More

Here is another play that is run frequently by Greg McDermott at Creighton. This set play is unique because it is run from a 2-3 high set with 1 and 2 at top so that 2 can eventually receive the stagger screen later in the play (this can be done out of a 4-out 1-in set by having the trailing big exchange with the weak side guard). This is a great way for you to get your team opportunities for easy 2's or a 3 pointer from the top of the key. See More

Here is a set play that was run numerous times in the Spurs second game vs. the Golden State Warriors last night. This play starts out of a 3-out 2-in set and quickly develops into a set that gives you a screen and roll option on the strong side and a stagger screen on the weak side. This play is effective because the strong side ball screen forces the defenders of 5 or 3 on the weak side to be in help and will allow either 5 or 3 to slip to the basket after setting their screen.
