Favorite Send to FastDrawInbounding the ball from the corner can be a difficult situation. The Nuggets started this play with good spacing to make sure they got the ball in. Once 1 got the pass they ran a decoy action with 3 cutting across screens from 5 and 4 to shift the defense. 1 then dribbled back to the original side to pass the ball to 2, cutting through the elevator screen for a shot. Favorite Send to FastDrawTexas Tech opened their Final Four game against Michigan State with this variation of their box set to get a lob dunk. 2 fakes the cross screen for 3 then cuts over 4 to the wing. This is a common action that they run in their "Box PNR" play. 3 then sets a back screen for 4. 1 passes to 4 at the rim for the lob dunk. Favorite Send to FastDrawGonzaga executes a common NBA tactice of a step up "Ghost Screen". The 4 sprints to his screen then slips to space behind the three point line. Gonzaga uses the cross screens from the wings as a wing to keep help defense out of the action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis set involves a great amount of false motion that can easily be used to create scoring opportunities if you look to exploit any missteps. Have your players not rush the backdoor cuts especially on the weak side opposite of the big as this is a viable scoring cut. If there are any miscues on the handoffs the ball handler can easily fake the handoff and have a wide open lane to the rim. There are lot of great counters you could run out of this such as turn the last backdoor cut into a smash cut or even cross screen for a throwback post feed. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great set for multiple looks. Obviously it is defended well but you can see the scoring opportunities very easily. My critique of this video is the pace with which Marquette runs it. I'd love to see 2 already sprinting as 3 pops for the catch. I also would like 4 and 5 to shape up after the screen as the switching left a mismatch somewhere. You could even have 4 and 5 cross screen to enhance this set. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Toronto Raptors ran this SLOB play down 3 with 2.4 seconds left in their game against the Sacramento Kings. The play was designed with options for their two best 3 point shooters to get a look at tying the game. 2 uses the cross screen from 5 to set up a stagger screen for 1 for the first option. 5 then sets a second screen for 2 to get him a shot up top for the second option. Favorite Send to FastDrawBrazil was down 7 with 17.2 seconds left against Lithuania, trying to finish off a comeback that had them down by 25 in the second half. They used the familiar box setup for this SLOB play. Often times in this situation 2 will set a cross screen for 3. In this play 2's starting position was facing 3 as if he was going to screen for him. Once 1 was given the ball, 2 instead cut off of the double screen by 4 & 5. When he didn't get the ball, 2 continued to the corner. 3 then ran off of the second double screen. 3's defender was unable to get through the screen which forced a switch and eventually a foul on the 3 point shot. Favorite Send to FastDrawDown 3 with 3.6 seconds left in the NBA Summer League championship game, the Chicago Bulls ran this sideline out of bounds play to get Denzel Valentine a clean look at a 3. This play uses the skip pass action that Brad Stevens has used at both Butler and the Boston Celtics in end game situations. The Bulls ran their own variation of the play that started with a decoy cross screen for Valentine instead of the zipper screen that Stevens uses. This action caused the defense to relax, thinking Valentine was covered after defending the initial cross screen successfully. The rescreen for Valentine then freed him up for the game tying shot. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Raptors make it look like they are going into typical flex actions (cross screen/down screen), but instead flip the flex cutter into a staggered screen. DeRozan can then choose to use the staggered screen or use a single down screen for a shot. See More
