Kansas coach Bill Self has a simple formula for evaluating his team’s three-point shooting numbers: Thirty percent from three equals good offense. The 30 percent isn't the percentage of made baskets, but it's the percentage of shots taken from the arc. If 30 percent of KU’s shots are coming from behind the arc, that’s a number that Self can live with. Coach Bill Self believes in playing inside then out. Coach Bill Self doesn't believe in launching from deep even if he is having trouble finding consistent post scoring this season. This basketball play takes advantage of his guards getting to the basket and finding the post on the roll. This season, the Jayhawks are hitting 39.6 percent from three-point range, which ranks 19th in the country. But after 22 games, the Jayhawks have taken just 29.4 percent of their shots from behind the three-point line. That ranks 289th in the country and is just slightly more than last season (28.6 percent). In conference play, the number has increased only marginally, to 29.9 percent, which aligns close to the 30 percent mark that Bill Self feels comfortable with. Philosophies on outside shooting vary from team to team, and coach to coach. No. 1 Kentucky, for example, takes three-pointers on 30 percent of its field-goal attempts, while Wisconsin, the nation’s most efficient offense, hoists threes on 36 percent of its shots. Here is a NBA Golden State Warriors Dribble Hand-Off / Pick and Roll Action from Game 3 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. Steve Kerr is doing an excellent job in getting great motion and action into his set plays for their players. The Golden State Warriors are the team that I want to watch in the NBA Play-offs for my new sets. Steve Kerry has installed a system that is like the NBA San Antonio Spurs in it's movement, flow and creativity. The starters and reserves have bought into this system all season. David Lee is even getting a second chance in these NBA Playoffs. He is seizing the moment too. Stephy Curry and Klay Thompson are indeed the Splash Brothers and either of them can go off for 20 points in a quarter at any moment. Curry is the MVP, but Thompson is likely to go off on any night. They were one of the best teams ever in the regular season, despite the trip up from the always difficult Memphis Grizzlies. I love this action and you will notice that I chose a play where Steph Curry isn't in the game. It's an example of how their reserves have bought in. This play is for a quick hitter in transition. For this play to work the offense needs to get down and get into the play before the defense can get back and get completely set. Screeners need to set good legal screens, cutter needs to come off the down screens looking to score, and the play needs to happen as quickly as possible. Hand off basketball plays are a great way to get the defense to miss communicate and break down defensively. Also if you have a great shooter this may be the only way to get them the ball if they are being denied. Sometimes a bad shot from a great player is better then a good shot from a poor player. Shooter needs to get his shoulders squared when coming off of the hand off on the shot. Come shoulder to shoulder on the hand off and don’t let the defender squeeze through. This drill is a "Turnover-Killer." The drill presents a combination of 1. getting open and catching, 2. facing the basket while ripping the ball through and jab stepping, 3. Driving around defender, 4. Making decision to shoot or drive by second defender, and finishing the play with a basket. It also creates toughness and ball security. You can also add a player at the basket with a pad to creat contact on the finish. See More

The idea is to shift the zone with the first skip pass, then skip back over the zone to the original side for an open shot. If you run the High-Low motion offnese, this drill is manatory. It combines several key skills; cutting, passing, sealing, offensive post moves, shooting, and weak side sealing. The key element is to teach the high post player to dive to the rim and dominate the weakside when the ball is entered to his teammate. In anticipation of the shot, the opposite post positions himself in a weakside seal to guarantee the rebound on a miss.
