Basketball Play - 21/Pistol Flex Entry

21/Pistol Flex Entry

Dave Nedbalek 07/05/2017

This is a disguised entry into 21. Defense is about positioning so getting any defense out of the position they are familar guarding an action out of automatically begins putting them to the test. This is only the entry into the 21 offense. If you have not seen that yet I recommend checking out my diagram of it here I will be uploading a couple wrinkles from this because I think the misdirection to isolatin for the 5 man is reallly stinking good here with everyone perimeter weakside it really gives you some freedowm to exploit here. I will upload a version of how to get any position on your floor seamlessly into the post position for this action as a set but this itself is simply the Flex entry into 21. See More

Basketball Play - Zone Sets: Weave

Zone Sets: Weave

Doug Brotherton 06/19/2017

This play was #1 on the most downloaded plays of 2018! Check out the full list and download the playbook: The Top 25 Plays of 2018 "Weave" is my favorite set to get a three-point shot against a zone. The dribble weave lulls the defense to sleep, setting up a double screen, which gets a guard an open shot. See More

Basketball Play - Zone Sets: Buster

Zone Sets: Buster

Doug Brotherton 06/19/2017

This play was #4 on the most downloaded plays of 2018! Check out the full list and download the playbook: The Top 25 Plays of 2018 "Buster" is a set that is especially effective against a 2-3 zone. An inside ball screen is set, to collapse the defense, with a back side screen freeing up a shooter. If the defense covers the shooter, there is a simple read to get an interior catch. See More

Basketball Play - Russia (W) - Middle P/R

Russia (W) - Middle P/R

Ryan Nguyen 06/17/2017

Russia ran this middle pick-&-roll action against Belgium in their second game at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017. The slice (shuffle screen) and screen-the-screener action is decoy to force the defense to move before getting into a middle pick-&-roll attack. As soon as 1 catches the ball from 2 up top, 5 turns around and sprint immediately into a ball-screen. As 5 rolls to the basket 2 "shakes" behind to create a single-side bump. 1 has option of passing to 5 rolling or 2 lifting behind for shot. If X5 is late recovering, 5 rolls into a post-up and receives the post feed from 2 (off of the triangle passing from 1). Another option is to have 4 "short" the pick-&-roll if X5 hard hedges. Basketball Play - SLOB Plays: Shuffle Option

SLOB Plays: Shuffle Option

Doug Brotherton 06/11/2017

This set is an example of teaching multiple options, out of one SLOB set. The Houston Rockets do this better than any team in the NBA, and it allows them to adjust to whatever adjustments are made by the defense. I have designed the weak side action in this set to remain the same, regardless of the ball side action. This is to simplify the read for the player with the ball. After the shuffle cut, there are three options, which are triggered by the 4-man. The first option is to pass to the wing, and chase into a ballscreen. The second option is a dribble hand off with the wing. The final option is to pass to the wing, and cut to the block. See More

Basketball Play - Horns Flex Zipper Weave

Horns Flex Zipper Weave

Evan Orzolek 06/10/2017

Common ball screen set run by Ratiopharm Ulm who won the Germany-BBL regular season title. The set starts in a horns alignment and includes a flex screen, zipper screen, and dribble weave action into the spread pick and roll. Many teams in Europe will commoly have different entries that eventually flow into the spread pick and roll to create confusion amongst the defense. The defense must defend mutiple different actions with this spread pick and roll entry and will have to properly communicate in order to properly defend the dribble weave ball screen. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Zipper Iverson Step Up

Golden State Warriors - Zipper Iverson Step Up

Matt Wheeler 06/10/2017

The Golden State Warriors started the third quarter of Game 4 of the NBA Finals with a concerted effort to get Steph Curry (1) the ball in ball screen situations. After Curry gets the pass off the zipper screen, Klay Thompson (2) makes a decoy Iverson cut off of 5 & 4. This clears the defense to the weak side of the floor and forces x5 to provide help, making him late in the ball screen coverage. See More

Basketball Play - Drift Pass Progression Drills

Drift Pass Progression Drills

Michael Shaughnessy 06/09/2017

A drift pass is made from a baseline drive or catch where you force rotation from the defense. Teammates should be spaced in the opposite corner or slot. If they are not in position as the catch or drive occurs, then it is his or her responsibility to move to those spots as an outlet for their teammate. Baseline drives either force defense to rotate with the help defender covering down on the big or the defense begins to ball watch losing sight of their match up and being late on the closeout.
