Basketball Play - 3FTC Close-Out 3on2, 2on1

3FTC Close-Out 3on2, 2on1

Greg White 09/28/2012

This is a great drill to instill in your players how and when transition offense begins: with a rebound. The drill starts with 2 offense players and 3 defenders. The Coach passes to an offensive player who either (1) shoots a 3 or (2) shot fake and drive. Multiple things can be worked on just at this point. Shooting under pressure, close out, help on basket drive and offensive players attacking off dribble. Once the defense is in control of the ball, the drill is 3 on 2 to the other end. Whichever player shoots the basketball comes back as the defender in a 2 on 1 scenario. The two remaining players "trail" the play and become the two offensive players with the next group. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA with Pin Down

UCLA with Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/22/2012

This is a multiple screen play that has several different reads. After you come off the UCLA screen and go to set the cross screen the person has the option of coming off of your cross screen or the pin down screen, it is their read. If he comes off your cross screen then you are going to come off the pin down screen. Just read the defense and play out of the set to get a good look. The UCLA screen needs to be a good screen because this will cause the defense to have to shift and become the first crack in the defensive break down. Cutter in the corner needs to read his defender and decide if he should come off the cross screen or pin down screen. Be a threat to score as you come off each screen. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

UCLA Cut with Back Screen & Pin Down

Basketball HQ 09/21/2012

This play has two consecutive UCLA screens with a pin down screen on the opposite side. It is important that you set good screens and be a threat to score off of every screen. The more good screens you set the more the defense will become out of position. Set good legal screens and come off of each screen being a threat to score. Passer needs to be able to get the ball to the shooter right as he is coming off the screen if he is open. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Transition Offense with Hand Off & Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/21/2012

Transition plays can be a great chance for your team to get easy buckets. If you can get your whole team down and into your offense before the defense gets set this provides a great chance to score. Make sure that if there isn’t a good look off of the transition play pull it out and run offense, don’t need to force up a bad shot. Attack off of the ball screen and get into the paint to create for your team. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - SLOB - Ballscreen into Post Touch

SLOB - Ballscreen into Post Touch

Luke Riegel 09/20/2012

This sideline out of bounds set is something that we like to run because it provides an opporunity for our best penetrator and ball-handler to attack off the bounce to an open side. Having a 4 man that can shoot it from the perimeter helps stretch the defense and opens up the lane for 5 to duck-in at the rim. We've used the stagger screen as false-movement to occupy the defense, but it could also be a beneficial scoring option. See More

Basketball Play - Transition Offense with Pin Down

Transition Offense with Pin Down

This is a transition man to man set. Look to get into it as quickly as possible before the defense can get set. It is a pretty simple action but it is a good quick hitter before the defense can get matched up. The screener needs to set a good screen and the cutter needs to come off looking to score. Players must sprint up the floor and get set, make sure that the screener doesn’t set a moving screen. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

SLOB - Slice with Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/19/2012

A good play doesn’t always score right out of the set but because it is run well it puts the defense out of position. This allows the offensive players to drive and kick and find open shooters or open big men. Be aggressive off of the ball screen and make a play for yourself or a teammate. Basketball Play - Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Single/Double with Side Ball Screen

Basketball HQ 09/18/2012

This action is meant to be quick and to get the defense out of position so that they cannot help as much on the side ball screen. If the big man is worried about the down screen and has to extend then he is going to be out of position to help on the ball screen. The man coming off the side ball screen needs to be aggressive and make a play for himself or a teammate. Set good screens on the baseline to get the opponents big man to have to help extend and then quickly sprint to the ball screen. Practice the right timing of this play. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More

Basketball Play - Single/Double

Single/Double

Basketball HQ 09/16/2012

The single/double screen play is a good set because it doesn’t allow the defense to cheat. There are multiple reads that you can make out of it and this keeps the defense honest. If your shooter is open off of the screens hit him, if the defensive bigs have to help out on the screen look in the post, or let the cutter just catch the ball on the wing and play out of it. Tell your big men to set good screens and then duck in hard. Cutter needs to set his man up and not be predictable on his cut. This play is from the 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls season. See More
