About Kyle Gilreath

Upon graduating from high school where I was fortunate to play for my father for two seasons, I enrolled at the Emory & Henry College (Emory, VA) to play for the well known coach Bob Johnson. After a semester in Emory, I decided it was not a right fit and transferred home and attended Brevard Community College to figure out the next step of my life.

On my 21st birthday, that next step was determined. People talk about “life changing moments”, this was definitely one of them. I received my letter of admittance to the University of Florida; soon after I would be hired by Matt McCall (whom I now consider to be one of my best friends) to be a manager for the men’s basketball team.

During my five seasons as an undergraduate manager and graduate assistant, I was fortunate to experience many things in basketball that most only dream of. 1 SEC regular season championship, 3 SEC Tournament Championships, and 2 National Championships. The trophies and rings are all nice, but it was much more than that. The number of relationships and memories I formed with such extraordinary individuals was absolutely priceless.

Upon graduation, I accepted a position at FastModel sports and spent five great years atFastModel (2009-2014). During my time at FastModel I was fortunate to create an unimaginable number of relationships with coaches from all around the world at all different levels of basketball.

In June of 2014, I decided to change directions in my life and began an exciting career withBetter Basketball. I am extremely excited to work with a number of people that are just as passionate about basketball and learning as I am.

I just finished my third year back on the bench as a Varsity Assistant  and 2nd year as the JV Head Coach at Fort Myers High School. Check out our website!

Among those, one very special relationship began to form, little did I know at the time that relationship would be with the love of my life whom I married June 2011. It is amazing how everything happens the way it does. On August 27, we were blessed by God with the most precious angel Kinsley Gilreath. They say fatherhood will change your life and I could not be any happier!

The number of people I owe thanks to for whom and where I am today is unfathomable.

Early

Vanderbilt ran this Early Offense quick hitter last night in the Maui Invitational Championship game vs Kansas. 3 lifting his arm, acting as he was setting a backscreen, really set up this play to allow him the extra step to get off the catch & shoot before the defense could recover. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Away

Elbow Away

Duke ran this half-court elbow set yesterday in their win over Georgetown. This is a set very common in the NBA and the Blue Devils do an excellent job with the execution. Grayson Allen has been the target of defenses early this season and this action puts him in multiple situations that cause the defense to be late and help the helper. See More

Baseline Cross

Michigan State ran this quick hitting action last night to put the Spartans ahead and eventually overcome Kansas. This is a simple action that because of the speed of the cuts and the congestion, the defense runs into each other allowing for the space for a catch & shoot by Valentine. See More

Basketball Play - Motion Rub

Motion Rub

Today's play comes from the 2005-2006 Florida Gators. This is an oldie but a goodie, I love rub cuts that lead to post-ups. What I like even more about this play is the hi-low at the end of the play that resulted in Joakim Noah having a direct drive to the rim. See More

The Dallas Mavericks ran this quick hitter in transition last night vs the Cleveland Cavaliers. This boomerang action is excellent to run vs teams that are very good pick & roll defenders. *Boomerangs are actions that quickly change flip back to the same side with an immediate return pass. Learn more about them from Kevin Eastman HERE. See More

Basketball Play - Line Back

Line Back

Last night with 2.7 seconds on the shot clock, the Dallas Mavericks ran this baseline out-of-bounds play vs the Cleveland Cavaliers. While the resulting shot wasn’t great, I really love this action. The secondary screening action on the back side open up two several scoring options while pulling the defense away from the rim with the main action. 3 has a look has a look if the defense gets caught and 4 and slip back to the ball after screening for a lay-up. March 5, 2015 - Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau drew up this marvelous sideline out-of-bounds play to give Chicago the go head basket and eventually defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder. Having a dominate and skilled (passing) big in the post helps, being only down 1 Gasol had the option for a quick turn and score but trusted his teammate E'Twaun Moore for the shot. See More

Last night late in their game vs the Houston Rockets, LA Clippers head coach Doc Rivers drew up this sideline out-of-bounds play in a timeout to get a 3-pointer for JJ Redick. While the shot didn't go in, and it wasn't exactly a clean look, the initial action and options were great and ones that can be tweaked for success. See More

Basketball Play - Flat Double

Flat Double

Kyle Gilreath 02/19/2015

Billy Donovan's Florida Gators ran this baseline out of bounds play vs Vanderbilt to give them the go-ahead bucket with 2 seconds remaining to eventually clinch the game. The ballscreen action after the ball is inbounded is great and occupies the eyes of the weak side defense, which allowed for the backdoor dunk. See More
