Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors Floppy

Golden State Warriors Floppy

Adam Spinella 05/22/2017

A floppy action is common in the NBA and at many other levels. It's a great action for shooters who are given time to read screens and be a threat off simple down screens. Since the Warriors have so many shooters, their use of the Floppy action is particularly dangerous when Curry, Thompson and Durant are all swirling around each other -- and more dangerous in those instances where Curry or Thompson are screeners. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - SLOB Brush Clear

Boston Celtics - SLOB Brush Clear

Matt Wheeler 05/22/2017

The Boston Celtics ran this play with the score tied and 36.3 seconds left in game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Celtics wanted to get a quick score within 5 or 6 seconds so they would end up with the last possession of the game. As 2 gets the inbounds pass, 3 & 4 cut to the corners for spacing. 1 sets a brush screen for 2, allowing 2 to drive hard right looking for a layup or a kickout to a shooter. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - EOG Stagger Split

Boston Celtics - EOG Stagger Split

Matt Wheeler 05/22/2017

The Boston Celtics used this play to get Avery Bradley (2) open for the winning shot in game 3 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. With the score tied and 10.7 seconds left, the Celtics had the option of going for a 2 or a 3. The play started with 3 curling around the first screen of the stagger and cutting to the basket. If defended correctly, 3 will still have a 1 on 1 opportunity in the post and 2 can come off the pindown screen. The Cavs sent two defenders after 3 though, which got 2 the open shot off the down screen from 5. See More

Basketball Play - Lob Sets - Iverson Down Flop

Lob Sets - Iverson Down Flop

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2017

"Iverson Down Flop" is a lob set, which is dependent on the ability of the passer to read the down screen. We use the term "FLOP," to replace FAKE. The play has an Iverson cut, followed by a "FLOP" or "FAKE" down screen. If X5 stays in the lane, the 2 should curl the down screen. This will result in a 2-on-1 at the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Lob Sets - Box Special

Lob Sets - Box Special

Doug Brotherton 05/22/2017

"Box Special" is a lob set, which we ran regularly at Mid Michigan Community College. If the lob is not available, the back screener out cuts. There is the potential for a shot, or a high/low pass. If X4 helps, then the point guard will be open on the baseline screen. The multiple options to this set made it a great set to run early in games. See More

Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors - Elbow Side

Golden State Warriors - Elbow Side

Ryan Nguyen 05/17/2017

This is a wrinkle out of an Elbow action that the Phoenix Suns used to run during the Seven Seconds or Less era. As 5 rolls to the basket, 4 sets a down screen for 2 (Klay Thompson) making it hard for the help defense to tag the roll as X2 and X4 are occupied with the downscreen action on the weakside. 4 can look to slip to the basket or lift high as X4 has rim protection duties. Basketball Play - Boston Celtics - 5 Flare Option

Boston Celtics - 5 Flare Option

Ryan Nguyen 05/16/2017

The Boston Celtics ran this ATO action against the Washington Wizards in Game 7 of the second round of the 2017 NBA playoffs. This is a wrinkle out of their "5" action: http://www.fastmodelsports.com/library/basketball/fastdraw/151007/play-Boston-Celtics--5 Instead of passing to Isaiah Thomas coming off of the flare screen for a shot, Isaiah cuts through to the opposite side to set a back screen with a down screen option.
