Basketball Play - Push Swing Flare

Push Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a clever action. This play has some interesting actions. The cut by 4 to get get open for the swing is pretty unique, as well as the 5 receiving a screen from the 1 on the flare. The action is pretty dependent on 5 flashing to get open, so that would need to be a point of emphasis. Basketball Play - Zip Swing Flare

Zip Swing Flare

Matt Hackenberg 02/14/2022

In today’s diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for a flare screen three-pointer. The dribble entry, zipper screen and down screen make the set easy to initiate, even against heavy pressure. The flare screen in very unassuming, so running this play a select few times a game should yield a good look. Basketball Play - Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Ball Screen Stagger Veer

Matt Hackenberg 01/29/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play looking to use a ball screen veer for either a three-point shot, or a slip off the stagger. It's important to read both, and let the defense decide which action you will pursue. Basketball Play - Stagger Post

Stagger Post

Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play to create options on both sides of the court - a post up and a stagger screen. The 1-3-1 alignment makes it really easy to run the action to either side, especially if you have shooters on both wings. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and the more attention paid to the stagger, the more likely the post will be open. Matt Hackenberg 01/28/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a secondary break action to create options on both sides of the court - a post up and a stagger screen. I like the ball is reversed before half court, creating a good flow to offense. The more help in the post, the more likely the stagger is open, and the more attention paid to the stagger, the more likely the post will be open. Basketball Play - Box Swing Stagger

Box Swing Stagger

Matt Hackenberg 01/26/2022

In this diagram and embedded video we look at a set play for an option for a three-point shot. I like the movement without this set to keep the defense busy. The only player that doesn't really move is 3. 2 wants to make a great cut off the stagger, setting it up with a great change of pace and change of direction. Of course, the screeners can look to slip if the opening is there. Video below.
